You guys seem pretty good with wiring.I'm not. Could you please answer a question? My brother has a '65 Mustang, the problem is no power at the + side of the coil. I think the resistor wire is bad. There is power at the switch. Can I just replace the resistance wire with a new one,and where could we buy one? I had suggested using a Pertronix kit but he wants to keep it old school with points. Oh yeah one other thing, I hot wired it by running a wire from the battery to the + side of the coil and it started right up and ran fine. I just let it run like this for 5 seconds so as not to damage anything.

Your diagnosis sounds about right, particularly as it works when you bypass it. To be sure, you need to get under the dash and bypass it locally, you're looking for a pink wire with an overbraid, and it plugs (from memory) into a short length of cable coming from the back of the ignition switch. Bypass it from there to the coil and if she starts then you're spot on.

Replacements can be had from any of the classic mustang specialists.
