Restomod question:67 tailight panel on a 66?

well, just looking at the two panels it looks possible(maybe even easy) but you are right, I should call for measurements

although...bumpers may be an issue...though they "look" the same too

worst case scenario, I could always cut the center out and weld it together afterwards to eliminate the width difference...its the height I am worried about, anyway thanks for the help and the quick reply

Well technically not unless you want to relocate the gas cap too since it is in the center, but you could make two cuts on each sideand then re-weld in a worse case. I just checked some of spec sheets and while the wheel bases were the same at 108" the actual car width was 68.2" in 65-66 and 70.9" for 67-68. There is some room to cut along the height as well not but much. I think your biggest challenge though would be not fitting the actual dimension but mating it to the end caps and trunk lid properly.

Let's put it this way, even though it's fiberglass and not metal I just got done fitting a 69' Shelby deck lid and end caps (which are made to fit my model car already) to my stock 69' tail panel on my convertible as I not only wanted a unique look but the stock panel is curved which I like better and the shelby panel is flat, kind of like what you are trying to change. Now granted I also wanted an even more perfect fit and alignment then Shelby's cars left the factories with back in the day but I had enough man hours into it to acheive that to buy two other whole sets of trunk lids and end caps, and they are not cheap. But, obviouslu anything is possible.

I am not famillar with what is available in fiberglass for the 65-66 but you may want to check out sites like maier racing to see if something doesn't already exist to get the look you want with less fab work. Unless you have issues with fiberglass or really want to experiment yourself.

Good luck!

oh, as for 1/4 panel extensions...I could use modified 67-68 extensions as well, all this stuff looks like its the same size...or much coser that the stuff I am modifying to fit the Fiero(custom making a front bumper for that, talk about a lot of work)
