Rev limiter?

Rev Limiter...whats That? J/k-when I Converted My Car To An A9l Computer My Rev Limiter Disappeared...it Was The Weirdest Thing. I Set My Limit At 7000 With My H/c/i 302 And Shifted At 6800...didnt Last Long Thought...especially With 175 Hp Nitrous System...stock Balancer Took A Dump And Proceeded To Take The Rest Of The Motor Out As Well.

Well it is supposed to have a limit of 6250..I thought the same thing...even hooked up a buddy of mine's autometer tach and watched it go all the way to 7000 when my stomach swallowed my balls and i thought it was gonna explode. A friend of mine with his own shop said sometimes when switching to an msd or any other ignition it does something where the rev limiter is erased...didnt believe him till mine disappeared.
I have an auto meter tach and the rev hits at 5200. just to get this right you just got the msd 6al and you where able to rase the rev limit? I would like to get at least 5500. I have a blue printed and balance motor to I think 7000 so im fine with that.

Are you talking about when the transmission shifts in each gear? Because that is set by the computer and you would need an aftermarket chip w/ dyno tune or a tuner program. That is called you shift point
If you stick the shifter to first gear, and floor it, it should rev to 6250 or 7k (don't remember which for your computer flash).
If you stick it in 1st gear and floor it, and the car won't rev past 5200, your computer is fuxored and you need a new one, or someone has installed an aftermarket chip & didn't know what they were doing.

I'm going carbed now, so my rev limit is gunna be set to 6500. The motor can rev to 7500(347 coast dominator stroker) 
I have a manual shift valve so with the new motor I can pull a little longer. I've had it for 5 years now and it never went higher than 5200. So the 6al will rase the limiter with out the chip right?mo_dingo said:
No a box wont raise the rev limiter. The puter cuts fuel to various cylinders at the limit, not spark. It is ingrained in the programming, not an external component.
A lot of guys like to have a box to cut spark before the factory limiter.
Guys bend over backwards to reset the limiter (tuner, chip, etc). If none of that is there (no chip installed, etc), I doubt the stock limiter has been removed.
On a stockish motor there is no reason to run nearly to the limiter anyhow, IMHO. Once not stock, tuning of often required anyhow.

Grady is correct, the limiter in the AODE cars is MUCH lower than the the T5 T4MO computer which is set at 7000rpms unlike the T5 A9L coputer found in the california 1988 and all 89-93 fox bodies. I'm fairly positive the 94-95 AODE rev limiter is set at 5250 or 5500... its one of those. As was mentioned you MUST raise the rev limiter with some sort of add on chip, an MSD and the like willl not allow you to raise it, but after its raised they can be used to activate the rev limiter at any rpm LOWER than what you set the chip at.

Sorry. I may have confused you...I switched to an A9s computer AND an MSD 6al and set my limiter to 7000. I know this sounds weird and I wouldnt believe it either but the transplant of the A9s computer did away with the limiter. I dont really know how or why but i watched it climb past 6250, 6500, then to 7000. My friend owns a shop and he told me sometimes weird stuff like that happens...
