Hi Gurus,
I changed my stock fuel pump with Holley Fuel Pump, don't ask me WHY, i do not know

When i installed new fuel pump, i got some problems

1) blue smoke from exhaust
2) start-up problem

Than, i read some articles, and buy Fuel Pressure Regulator and Fuel Pressure Gauge then installed yesterday.

I set 4 1/2 psi. Is it OK for my 289 A code Fastback

Now, solved some problems. What is the reason of problems?

Regards

Well, the flippant answer would be you read too many magazines.

Basically, the Holley pump is more than you need. Dig the old pump out and try it. You might find your troubles go away.

You want the fuel pressure to be right around 7 psi for carb applications. Set your fuel pressure regulator accordingly and I would also suggest checking the float levels in your carb. the reason for the blue smoke is likely because you had too much fuel pressure causing a flooding situation.

I thought blue smoke was burnt oil and black was unburnt fuel. How does too much gas flooding make it blue?

What kind of carb are you running? If it's Edelbrock, then no more than 6 psi according to their manual.

Yup, you are right, my bad. Doesn't explain why he would have blue smoke after replacing the fuel pump, so likely looking at 2 distinct problems. Set the pressure to 7 psi and check float levels and let us know where things are at.

Yup shoot for 6-7. You could prob get away with 4.5 if there was low demand on the fuel system.

Sorry can't edit my post.

There is nothing wrong running more pump than you need, or anything wrong with the holley pumps. I'd pump mult holley pumps in before I'd ever put a pos bg pump in. .
