Right Throttle Body For Cobra Intake

Ok finally intalled a Cobra Intake on my sons '89 GT. It's pretty much a stock engine with cold-air-intake,Mac equal-length headers,2 1/2 Flow's,3.73gears. My question is what size throttle body should I get. I dont think I'm going to do much more to the car as far as the engine goes (he's still only 16). After the throttle body we'll proabably go to 24lb injectors and a bigger mass air flow. So any ideas/suggestions on what size throttle body and also mass air meter we should go with will be appreciated. Also since we went with the Cobra intake we dont need an EGR spacer right?

Right the egr is built into the cobra. I think the cobra opening is for a 65mm throttle body but you could always open it up a little with a dremel if you want a bigger one. A 65mm is plenty if you don't plan on doing anything else. I run a 75 mm mass air with my 24 lb. injectors but then again set-ups vary and so do opinions from person to person.

I agree with Bubba. I really like the FRPP 65mm TB. It is quality made, comes with a new TPS sensor, and I never had any problems with it at all. I never had any of the binding or sticking problems with the FRPP unit that I hear about from other brands. I did have a BBK TB on my Explorer, and it did have some binding problems.
I have always heard Accufab makes some nice TBs.
Try Summit Racing for the FRPP TB. They sometimes have some good discounts going on and they stock them ready to go. BTW...the cobra intake was a great intake on my old car, and the 65 TB was made for the Cobra. Watch out by going to much larger size...many tests show that air flow velocity will drop, actually hurting your performance potential.

The TB opening on the cobra intake is 70mm. I put a 70mm on mine and noticed no ill effects in power. Just "felt" like the power was less peaky...like the torque curve was better. I've never had anything else but the 70 and the stocker on there, but from my experience the 70 is just fine.

go with the 65. i had the 70 and went back to the 65. with the 70 my would bog down a little bit and the 65 responds better IMO.

The cobra opening is for a 65mm. I have a 65mm FMS and it is great. The only problem is they are disconntinued and you have to track one down.

so is the opening 65 or 70. i know the cobra came with a 60mm tb so i would think it would be a 65 opening

70mm is the opening, 70mm is ideal. Tb may not be money well spent now, but won't hurt.

Thanks for the input guys. Eventually when the engine goes I will build a stroker with all the goodies. But for now I figured to buy a throttle body,mass-air,injectors (easy bolt-ons) so we have them already when the time comes, even though it really wont make a difference now, or will it? Good idea or bad idea?

I did almost exactly what you're planning to do and didn't really notice much difference. In fact it feels like it pulls a little less down low. The top end is snappier though. You could easily break a sixteen year old's heart by messing with his low end torque.

wow what a cool dad.. yeah the open is for sure 70mm a 70 or a 65 will both perform well. the stock really wont hold you down with the little mods either

65mm should be ideal with a cobra intake. sure the hole is 70mm but its not just about how much air, its also about velocity. you'll get better response from a slightly smaller throttle body on a NA 302 with stock heads.
