To those of you who live in CT and heard about the fatal accident on route 84 in Manchester last week, that was my student, a hockey player I coached, and my good friend Ryan Foley. Ryan was driving in his 1994 V6 Mustang, which was the first of 2 Mustangs Ryan owned. He always dreamed of having a 5.0, but had to start somewhere. He finally attained a rolling chassis 89 gt, which he just got the motor and trans in the weekend before his untimely death. The past week has been a very difficult time for me as a teacher at South Windsor High School because I have not only been trying to deal with my own heartache, but comfort the pain of 100's of students as well. Ryan was the proud big brother of sister Kaitlyn and brother KJ. I wanted to post this message for 3 reasons:
1) Please keep Ryan and his family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days. Even though you may not know them, I believe that when people care it finds a way to help. Ryan was an amazing person, and I'm sorry that more people did not have a chance to know him. I consider myself extremely lucky to have spent the past three years with him.
2) Tell those you love that you love them as often as you can. Hug someone just because you can. This experience has helped to show me how fragile life is. Cherish every second of it while you have the chance.
3) One of the things that we are looking to do is finish building Ryans 89 gt for the family as a memorial for Ryan. As I stated the car was almost done, but we are missing just a few key parts. If anyone in CT has any parts they are willing to donate to me for the completion of the car please let me know. We are looking for the accessory brackets for all the pulleys. We are also looking for a distributor with cap and rotor. I'm sure there are many other parts we also need, so anything you might have laying around collecting dust, feel free to post here. I will let you know if it's something that we are looking for.
