Road Test: My 98 GT 100K Miles Thread!

True.
I'm at the point where i'm more willing to make payments to garantee the car will start up and be issue free for a few years vs worrying about what is about to break on the car and when i can find the time to fix it.

I agree. I don't mind the occasional upgrade of worn out parts though. As long as I know it's coming. I would get rid of the car if it left me stranded or began to fall apart. I do not have the time/tools/facility to fix my car either. However, when a shop quoted me $95 to swap out the serpentine belt, I think I can find the time & tools to do that one myself. :)

You will like the bullitt suspension, it has a stiff enough feel to it and handles well without being unbearable for every day stuff such as speedbumps. Although after 95000 miles i can tell my shocks and struts are a little "tired". When i get some funds my plan was to keep the bullitt springs and go with some bilstiens, hopefully that will be a good combo.

I can hardly wait to feel the difference. My suspension parts or at least the struts were supposed to have been changed at 60K but I put it off.

Maybe you can consider a brand new reasonable price bullitt kit I linked to above? Not sure what difference bilstiens will make.

Tom: I'm going to have to blow off your advice and learn the hard way unless you can tirerack me some decent tires (stock GT size) for a good price. Do you have an affordable suggestion? BTW: The II's and III's are totally different.

Those conti sport tracs (previous generation) in the comparo are actually great, I had them (previous generation) on my 98 GT before, very good stopping power, very good in the turns and good/avg stopping in the rain going down hills

I got some stock 98 cobra rims with barely new BF KDW wrapped around them if you want to make a deal?

I'll kep that rims offer in mind. Currently I think I'll stay with my old GT stuff. Funny, I currently have Conti-Extreme Contact I believe it's called. Wasn't all that happy with them. I think when a company changes changes their tire generations, you cannot really make a good comparision. The tires can be radically different.

the new suspension will make it feel like a whole different car. of all the mods i've done, only the supercharger made a more noticable difference.

i suggest some Nitto 555's. i have them on my car and they perform quite well for the price. i've even pulled some sub 2.0 60's with them.

Thanks DBMSTANG. I can hardly wait to feel the new ride.
Too bad the Nittos are not carried by TireRack.
I wonder if they will ship direct to my installer (who is not listed in their installer links.)

i don't see why not. i had my tires shipped to my parents house when i had an apartment. i also had my shortblock shipped to my brothers dealership.

bitch bitch bitch you probably dont take care of your car, my car just hit 100k and im supercharged and the biggest problem ive had so far is a bad iac...i take religously good care of my car and previous fords and have never had serious problems...

My car has been through hell. Daily driver in Va for 3 years then onto a tour in NY that lasted from 2001-2006. It went through every rain/ice/snowstorm Long Island threw at it. It has never sen the inside of a garage.

I do take good care of it and I've also replaced the IAC. I went headswap instead of SC route b/c I could only afford 1 or the other. A non-headswapped 98 GT with a SC doesn't perform up to my standards.

I also thought it would it would be nice to have a brand new top end of the engine!

OK, I did the unthinkable. I blew off excellent advice and ordered the tires I researched in one of my above posts. I should have it all instaled by this time next week. I'll let you guys know how stupid I was to get those tires. Thanks to SN members for showing me where to get a reasonable cost suspension kit!

Since i changed to synthetic oil, I now get a solid 1/2 gallon more MPG.

I got a few install prices and have an appointment for Tuesday for the job.

To mount & balance 4 tires: $75
Install 4 springs & 4 struts: $150
Alignment $59 unless it needs mjr adjust.
Install of front and rear sway bars: unknown based on how much work is involved. Just a guess estimate he gave was ~ $150
Total est of $430

Sounds like a good list. From what I remember, I removed both front and rear swaybars when I did my spring/struts upgrade, so he really should charge you anymore for putting the new ones on, but hopefully it will only be minimal.
