i dont have one but just for future reference if a rod knocks and i decide to rebuild the engine would that mean i need new rods too? what are other things that causes rods to knock besides low oil? sorry for the questions. im a computer guru converting to mechanics. :)

I think you would be ok using the same rods, just gotta check the crank for any scoring or nasty scratches. I'm no engine builder nor have I rebuilt an engine that has had a rod knock.

It depends why it is knocking, most of the time you can reuse the rods but they may need to be honed (small end) or resized, and the crank may need to be polished or turned.

It is not low oil that causes rod issues, its volume and supply to the rod while it is running through the rpm range, and a host of other things can cause rod issues...
