Does anyone have pics of roll bars in their cars. Getting mine done in Feb. Thinking about a 6 point. Have thought about a swing out bar on the driver. any advissse is welcome.

Wouldn't a 6pt rollbar be a cage?

If you want structural integrity from the swinging out bit, you won't get much. If it moves, it's not going to add much to the cage. Either make it permanent, or don't put something there in the first place.

No, an roll bar can have up to 8 points....

I will find my pics I took of mine in my 65'.... I will probably not be able to post them till Chrismas day though.... I will take a look for you though....

How is that different from a cage? Does a cage have to have A pillar beams, and bits for the roof above the driver's head?

What I think would be good for a street car, in regards to the sides where the doors are, is to make the bar bend down at the back of the seat, and brace the bend back to the bottom point of the rollbar.

Here's your typical roll cage.

That doesn't sound like a good idea for the side bars, plus they would be the possibility they wouldn't pass tech at a dragstrip.

Swing out driver side bars are perfectly legal and will pass tech with out a second look as long as you use an approved swing out kit. You can buy them from Summit, Jegs ect, ect. Jegs makes a real good kit for around 40 bucks or so. Check there web site. Adding a swing out bar will not affect the integrity of the cage in anyway. The side bars that would cut the angle for the doors are for driver protection not structural rigidity.

This is a rollcage....

Also the swingout bars are legal... Mine passes tech no problem.... I installed Chris Alston Chassisworks swingouts on both sides... This car is street driven, that is why on both sides..... Chassisworks stuff is $$$$$... But I really liked the quality.... Did not really like some of the cheaper swingouts I saw....

I will post my pics soon... Very busy with the holidays....

ok, this is what I was talking about just to clear it up, something like this.

I know it wouldn't have as much structurally integrity as a straight bar, but kind of halfway between convenience and strength.

That would be fine for everyday use... Those side bars dont look like they would pass tech at the drag strip though..... Everyone that asks about putting a rollbar/cage in... I tell each and everyone of them... Get an NHRA rulebook.... Read it once and read it again and again... There are so many little stipulation, yada,yada,yada... If the rollbar is not to par they will send you home.... I have seen it happen before...

To pass tech the sidebars... With the driver sitting in his seat... The bar has to pass through between your shoulder and elbow with your arm hanging down.... The bars in your picture apear too low.... The bar in your picture look like they would be below the elbow and would fail tech....

Good Luck, Billy
