roller block guys i need some info

1966 stang with 1989 roller 302 now 347.
1. what oil pump and pick up do i need? "i am using my 1966 oil pan".
2. is it good to get the high volume/pressure or just high volume oil pump?
3. going with MECH fuel pump what pump is a good buy and can i use my old eccentric?
4.what head gasket for my 347? it is .40 over from stock 302?
5. what water pump do i get? sence i am using the 1989 block but putting on the 1966 timing cover does it matter. i think the only difference is impeller rotation.

i am looking to get all this stuff from summit in the next day or 2 thanks for your help!!!!!

You can use any standard or HV pump w/after market pan. As long as the pickup is the same for the pan you are using.2. is it good to get the high volume/pressure or just high volume oil pump?
A stock pump would be fine....
3. going with MECH fuel pump what pump is a good buy and can i use my old eccentric? A holley mech pump will work and yes you can use you ecentric.

4.what head gasket for my 347? it is .40 over from stock 302?
Felpro head gaskets or cometics if you are going to put a supercharger or nitrous

It does matter if its going to be a standard or reverse roation pump. And it will also matter where you are going to put your dipstick. i am looking to get all this stuff from summit in the next day or 2 thanks for your help!!!!!
 
If you don't have the 66 pump pickup tube hot tanked and thorouly cleaned, by a new pickup. You don't want 30-something year old crud in your new motor. Head gaskets? Use either the Felpro Blue or the Expanded Graphites. The Print-O-seals don't hold up well to high temps. What ever front accessories you choose will determine what timing cover and pump you'll need.
 
ok so I will buy a HV oil pump and clean up my pickup and pan real good. and the ARP shaft will be used on that. i am using the 1966 timing cover,as far as the water pump i think it is standard rotation. also i am hopeing my gear drive fits in the timing cover, it is a Pete Jackson drive. (and yes I know 90% of you will say go chain go chain) but no thanks. any other advice or problems will i need to look at wile putting the accessories on this motor?

1. New stock pickup and a Melling standard pump.
2. See #1. You don't need a high pressure or high volume pump unless the engine revs really high and has loose race clearances.
3. It depends on if you have the older one-piece eccentric or the later two-piece. You can use either one, but the cam dowels are different. If you don't want to change the dowel, I think you can use a two-piece eccentric on the stock timing gear. I have no idea if that applies to the geardrive, though.

5. If you're using the '66 cover, get a pump for a '66. You'll have to pull out two alignment dowels that the roller block has. The early covers don't use them and you have to align it on the damper instead.

yes i took the alignment dowels out and it fit bolt for bolt. the one thing i did have to do is cut the splater sheald off the timing cover so it wouldnt hit the gear drive but now it fits with no hitting at all.

about the eccentric, well the old one seems to fit just fine on the gear drive. the only thing that i dont like is the smaller dowel pin. i didnt rotate the motor to see if the eccentric will hit any part of the timing cover because why would it? it was in that cover b4 and it is in there now. will i still need to get a different eccentric due to the larger dowel hole? or will the work fine?

no i know what the difference is i am talking about the dowel in the cam. it looks to be a different size to me from the one that is on the new motor. the 1966 dowel looks to be larger and the one that came with my comp cam looks smaller! i though it was because the old one was not as tapered on the ends, it was more square and the comp cam one was tapered a lot more. but then i put the old eccentric on to my NEW motor with the NEW dowel and the dowel still does not fill the hole in the eccentric like the old one once did.

noooooooooow the dowels for alignment on the block for the cover were no problem i took them out and the cover fit nice,(so far)

ok well i got both pins and put them together and they are the same size. buuuuuuuuuuuuut the one that i though was smaller was tapered a lot and thats why it looked sooooo small. so what i did was use the old one witch has no taper and it looks better and holds the eccentric way nicer.

i also bolted the timing cover up to the motor with out a gasket and rotated the motor and nothing interfered. i then looked in side the fuel pump hole to see the eccentric had about the thickness of a dime space of clearence, "and thats with no gasket" so i should be fine right? so what part of the eccentric will interfer? im not seeing that part!!!!
 
well everything is bolted up and ready to go, i just need the water pump. i am going to use the stock style radiator but just a 3 or 4 row. so im going to get the standard rotation pump right. when i go to the parts store they ask standard or reverse rotation.
 
the eccentric will rub on the timing cover and cut a groove into it, i found out the hard way when i went out and got a 302 timing cover when i was changing my timing chain since my 289 one looked pretty shot and ended up shelling out most of my bearings from the metal shavings that got into the motor :( didnt even feel like anything was interfering when i put it on either so if u ever decide to put on a new timing cover change ur eccentric to the crappy two peice...
