Hi, I was just wondering what would work better with my setup. They are going on stock heads and I have a B-303 cam. Should I go with the 1.6 or 1.7's? Also, for the stock setup is it 3/8 stud mount?

thanks for your help

You would gain a tad bit more with the 1.7s.
However, you would also need to change the stock springs.

Ive used the stock units and the 1.72's with the Bcam, I didnt notice anything swapping them, other than it sounded like a sewing machine and drove me to swap them back to stock lol..

Will you expand a little more on what you mean by "... gain a tad bit more... "?
What I'm asking is;
bit more hp?
bit more tq?
bit more band?
Where, when does this bit more occur?

Just want to know what your experience has been more precisely.
Thanks

the stock springs are good to .500 lift, a bcam (.480) with some 1.7's would put you around .520 if I remember corectly, yes you should gain some more hp with the 1.7's, however technically you are supposed to run 1.6's with this cam, it doesnt really matter though.. I never felt a difference in hp in my ride, and I liked it quieter with out the rr's so I put stock back in, but if you are lookin for the most out of a combo this would help a little...

For the debate lets say;
Spring rate, pressure, compressed and open tolerances are correct for 1.7 rockers.
Retainers allow increased lift and clearance from rockers.
Rocker tip to valve stem alignment are correct (pushrod length are correct).
Lifters are in working order.
No oiling issues.

Why would 1.7 rockers be any noisier than 1.6 ratio?
Where, how, when is the power increased?

It's my experience most people forego/skip;
Degreeing the camshaft
Ensuring proper pushrod length and rocker tip alignment
Proper "on the base" and "on the nose" spring pressure
Using new, and/or tested lifters
Upgrading to a larger stud, stud girdles, shaft rockers.

I've made those mistakes in the past... now I know a little better, not much... but leaps and bounds more than my past.

you will gain around .030" lift going to 1.7s. your not going to notice much of a difference IMO, i never did. i ran 1.7s with my b-cam and it worked fine.

if your using pedestal rockers. your roller tip on the rocker will no longer ride in the center of the valve stem. the measurement from the fulcrum to the roller tip is about .100-.125 ( about 1/8" just an eyeball guess). so the rocker tip will go be farther towards the exhaust side. if you have adjustastable rocker that can all be adjusted out with a different length pushrod. but i ran 1.7s for a long time and never had any issues. and i never really had the ticking problem like people seemed to have. i didnt recently, i had some put some valves in my heads and they were wrong and screwed it all up and it made noises so i had to take the heads back off but thats besides the point.

I do not have dyno proven numbers on the change from 1.6-1.7.
On the dyno it would probably show a small increase in HP from the added lift.
The B cam with 1.7 rockers will give put you at ~ 510 lift.

Also... for the record my rockers are as quiet as stock.
