I have stock heads and intake with a b cam. I suppose you could have read that in my sig. My question is will installing 1.7 roller rockers and a trick flow street heat intake on my motor be a waste of time without aftermarket heads (ie will I only gain 5-10 ponies)?

I would do the intake only, until you get heads, if thats what you are planning on. That way you can do the rockers while installing the heads. Also, I was originally going with 1.6 rr's, but they wouldn't fit under the stock valve covers. I didn't want to run an intake spacer, so I put in Cobra 1.7rr's, and they fit under the stock covers. I think with an intake spacer and the TFS intake, you run into hood clearance problems.

I honestly don't know how much of a gain that intake with 1.7's will make, even though I am running those parts . I modified my car in this order:
1)Stock
2)Flowmasters
3)Procharger
4)Heads/cam/intake,1.7 rr, bigger throttle body, MAF w/ injectors, long tubes and h-pipe, all on a freshly machined stock block,... and some other supporting mods.

So it was hard to tell the idividual part gains, since I did a bunch of them all at once. It just felt like a new car.

If you want to go for the kind of power that will require some heads like TFS, Edelbrock, AFR etc then I would...................

Pick an intake that would work with your long term plan (head choice)
Not get the 1.7 rr's as they are ped mount....go stud mount....stronger, more stable, more options with valve adj.

If you go with your plan of intake & 1.7rr's I would say 98 to 99% of your gain will come from the intake.

One last thing......If at a later date you wanna go for a cam other than your B, most of em are cut for a 1.6 ratio.

This is true. I got pedestal because the shop I bought them from had them in stock at the time.

However, there are a few companies that now make shaft rockers that use the pedestal mount location. From what I have read, they are more stable than stud mounted rocker setups. But that is again just what I have read. I have no experience with them. Has anyone else seen these? There was a thread about them on Harcore50.com a while back...

Hey Joel

I've seen those rockers and if you and I are talking about the same ones I think they are kinda expensive.

I'm with you on wanting to hear from someone who has used them so this reply will work for a ttt.

I have seen them from yella terra, probe, and a few others. They are all pricey like you say, but not anywhere near as expensive as a full on Jesel shaft setup. I would say stud mount from the beginning is better for a stock block setup.

THanks guys, so what I'm gathering here is that until I do heads I prolly won't gain much from the 1.7's? O'l whitey, you picked up 13 ponies from the cobra intake and 1.7's? How well will the cobra work with TFS heads vice the trickflow street heat?
