Rotating Assemblies - got a few Q's?

Well, i'm thinking of playing it smart before i get stupid and actually building the bottom end first. I haven't found any really good deals on rotating assemblies so far, except from Sean Hyland. It appears the 4.6L Forged rotating assemblies right now are 1495 and to go 5.0L stroker it's 1995...

my first question would be is it overall worth it for the extra 500 bucks to go to a 5.0L? what clearencing is required with a stroker crank in these blocks? i'm at a loss as to what to do with the pistons. Basically i'm unsure wether i want to run boost or juice. I'm figuring a fairly high compression 5.0L for juice would be nice, but then if i ever strip the NOS i'm kinda dicked for boost. My orig. plan was for a Vortech mongoose kit...i'm kinda torn really. Any ideas as far as that's concerned? i figured i could get the plate kit now, play with a 100 shot, forge the bottom end, and rack up the shot come summer...or keep the compression and the NOS respectable, and just add the vortech as money permits...

thoughts...suggestions?
 
who do you plan on assembling the shortblock? personally i'd rather get one from someone i trust already assembled. N/A you'll gain torque with the 5.0L but lose some power up top with the stock heads/cams. FI or with ported heads they will produce more upper rpm power. is it worth it? depends on your goals and how much you are willing to spend.

I think a lot of people seem to have misconceptions about torque and power, power is a function of torque. if you gain more torque you will gain more power, however if you lose torque and rev higher, you may still gain power.

anyway the equation is:

hp = rpm*tq/5250
 
i guess i'll be staying 4.6 then for now, because i lack the cash for the machine work, however i am confident in my engine building skills. I've done my TSi twice, the big block for my corvette, a friends LT1, and a couple 5.0's so i think i should be able to handle a modular. I'd also rather do it myself so i know if i grenade it...it truly was my fault...

who would you suggest for a fully forged rotating assembly then?
 
any particular vendors is what i actually meant. i pretty much knew it was gonna be a cobra crank but what about the internals? i'm not sure about a drop in compression. isn't ours already low as it is comparatively to other motors?
 
I did get a quote from VT, and based on the price/quality/rep...they appear to be the front runner. Might even try to score a set of stage 2 blower cams from them as well since the motor's gotta come apart might as well do the top end too!
