I have been screwing with a 69 mustang with a 302 for some time. While idling the car bounces a lot and sounds like it has a slight miss. But while cruising the car runs well. I checked the plugs and wires (8.5mm) and cant find any problems. I advanced the timing at idle to 10 degrees BTDC, and I have been adjusting the idle and mixture screws on the carb (a 4 bbl). I have looked for a vaccum leak and cant find one. The carb was recently rebuilt but might have some type of internal problem, I'm not sure though. Also, I recently had problems with the car's electrical system. The battery seems like it is shot and needs to be replaced. For some reason the battery boiled over when I put an original type of regulator on it, so I replaced the original type of voltage regulator and put an electronic one on. The only problem is that the alternator gague doesn't work any more, and the battery doesn't seem like it is holding much of a charge. Could the terrible idle be caused by some type of electrical problem? The car has petronix ignition. I am about to by a new battery and voltage regulator to see if that makes a difference, but any suggestions would be appreciated.
