RPM's drop intermitantly at idle

I'm sure there are tons of you that have experienced this problem. its hard to take it to a shop b/c it just doesnt do often enough that its going to happen when the mechanic drives it (my luck). so what do you guys think is the problem?

Did you ever think that maybe we don't have a clue as to what's causing your problem? Your description of the symptoms was pretty slim so there wasn't a lot for us to go on. Do you have an aftermarket TB installed by chance? Have you checked the TPS voltage?

U.M.

I have a 98 and it would do that sometimes. It was worst at operating temperature after I'd back up and stop. The engine would stall most of the time. It's gotten a lot better since I changed my coil packs and the mass air flow sensor. Every now and then the idle seems to dip a bit low for no apparent reason, but it fixed the stalling. I would suggest checking the TPS as Uncle Meat said as well. Are your spark plugs gapped properly?

that is EXACTLY what is happening, when i back up and stop is usually when it does it. it also does it when i am in traffic and engine temp gets hot enough to make the fan come on, then the idle will drop. mine has never stalled however.
