My friend says he has a friend that has an 03 gt with a few bolt ons running 8.4's on the 8th.

I said "Bull****"

He's got drag radials, long tube headers, straight through exhuast with dumps, not cats. throttle body and plenum...

He claims that it puts down 310 HP to the wheels.

Does 8.4 on the 8th sound accurate or is this kid lying out of his ass?

From the experiances I've actually seen at my local track... 03/04 cobras run 8.0-8.5 on street tires stock.

He claimed he ran 8.4 at 80 mph with bolt on's and DR's

I told him to call the kid and we will go out there tonight for the midnight drag, weather will be cool here in florida and should give him the upper hand to show what he's got.. How convienant he can't go because he's busy. My friend was telling me "Dude, just talk to him, he will tell you what to do to your stang to get it there" and i was like BS. This kid also cut his hood to make what he called.. "The hood scoop fuctional" I almost died laughing, then he claimed he cut into his side to make his side scoops "functional".

Does it sound liek this kid is full of it?

this guy is quite possibly bs'ing about the times, & not a snowflakes chance in hell on the power thing

BUT i have a friend that is running 8.0's with mild bolt ons. x-pipe, cat-back, pullies, plenum, (can't remember if he has a TB), some weight reduction (nothing crazy) & 4.30 gears. the difference is he's leaving at redline & he can actually drive, unlike most people. & before you call BS i've seen it with my own two eyes at the track

Yeah.. Idk.

Maybe this kid that told me all this has no idea what he's talking about. Maybe the kids car is really nice and has TONS of mods, but I'm doubting it.

I can run 8.8 with 3.73's and crappy kumho tires. 8.4 with 4.10's and DR sounds correct.

could be...

i dunno...
8.4 @how many MHP?
get the mph and you should be able to call his BS.
on the flip side we got an `87 gt running 8.65 in 1/8th
he has 4.10, long tubes, and edelbrock intake. the car is still speed-density.
he has full afternarket exhaust also.
310 hp at the wheels w/2V. jeez i wish i had that much.
i read an article in MMFF and the highest N/A hp in that bunch was 295 rwhp.

The kid I talked to about it was on the phone with the kid with the car.. I asked him "Ask him what his MPH is." and he did.. the kid responded with 80. I run DEAD ass stock 74-75, but my launch is regular tires and usually 2.3

8.8... I can see..

8.4 at 80 i DOUBT it.

that doesn't help much

8.4 @ 80 is pretty much on track if he hooks well with low HP. I always ran 79-81 with my first 5.0 my times varied from 9.25 -9.0. mph is a fuction of hp and changes little from run to run. let me look for the hp formula. BRB

he'd have to be pushing 1.5 60's to get an 80 MPH 8.4 if he's lucky though... right?

Well he has around 250RWHP. I ran a 8.69 1/8 @ 80.8x when I had 248.9RWHP....on street kumho tires @ 30PSI. I think its POSSABLE with DRs...but my 60ft was a 1.909, so thats not easily beatable on DRs. It would be tough and at best he could get a 8.49999999999999999999 lol.

1/4 mile figures

if his car weighs 3400 and his WHP is 310 then his flywheel hp is about 369. his quater mile ET should be 13.051 and MPH 109. you can interpolate closely to 1/8 et and times. typically a car that is N/A will run 1/8 * 1.5 = ET.

a car that runs 9.0 should be close to 13.9 -14.1.

an 8.0 sec car will run approx 12.0 - 12.3.

so an 8.4 should run approx = 12.6 sec. these are estimates only. factors such as a narrow powerband, or supercharging affects this making it useless.
a car can have great ET with low mph if it has massive low end torque and no HP.

slicks can do the same thing. lots of stored kinetic energy dumped in a short period time will yield good 60ft with bad 1/8 and worse 1/4 mile times as the real HP corrects the ET. MPh stays constant (slicks grow causing less mph as gear effectively grows).

anyway, 310 rwhp and 8.4@ 80 i don't think so. maybe at 85. or more.

I know a guy with a 99 gt, runs 8.259@84.48 mph in the 1/8 th with similar mods. He actually ran a 12.920 1/4 @ 105.75 mph. I'm looking at the time slip as I type this, cause he kicked my ass. Same night, this last friday, he ran a 12.80 and a 12.82. Long tubes and exhaust make good power.

Im pushing for him to prove himself. Maybe I'll be able to report back next week. Hopefully this guy has a maxed out bolt on car, and really does run 8.4. I'd like to give him his just desserts, either way... he's going to get them. Whether they be of the polite kind.. that remains a chapter waiting to be written
