car was running good, no engine codes or anything. went to get some gas, turned car off, filled the tank up, went to start it and would not fire. fuel pump was not running, checked for power (at inertia switch) nothing coming in or out. just ran a hot wire to connector, pump came on car is turning over but will not fire. checked for spark, not getting any. is there a common wire or module that would be sending power to the coil and to the fuel pump?

The PIP, with a conduit through the TFI module, controls both. It could be either one, though foxes tend to go through TFIs quicker than PIPs (TFI's are generally heat sensitive, whereas PIPs randomly act up).

Let the TFI cool off and see if it catches. If you go into the store and buy something cold (frozen peas, etc) and wrap the bag around the TFI module, this might help expedite the testing.

Stupid question. I know what a TFI is but what and where is a PIP?

PIP is the ignition stator inside the distributor. It tells the EEC where the engine is at in its rotation, so spark and fuel can be sent to the correct cylinder at the correct time.
