I always heard that it runs hotter that way...with a 180 it stays in the rad a little longer to cool down with a 160 it would just flow all the time never have a chance to cool down..i could be wrong here..lol

It would open quicker and in your theory where it stays in the radiator longer it stays in your motor longer too

Im also thinking the Trans isn't helping I just installed a c4 with a 3500 stall. And noticed that they ran the trans thru the radiator then thru the trans cooler...im thinking it should just go thru the cooler..alone that might help it run a little cooler didn't run this was with the AOD and mild stall...

Yes I run a 3 row radiator I run a flex-a-lite 3300 cfm electric fan..Car never ran this hot with the AOD just started with the c4 3500 stall convertor...Trans cooler is a decent size don't know off hand bought the car with it when it was supercharged...it is running the the trans cooler back thru the Radiator then to the trans im sure that isn't helping things either...

that converter generates alot of heat...i would use the largest cooler i can fit...when is the fan coming on at???? your fan stat might not be working correctly..sometimes a pusher fan helps this problem. and yes you need to change your lines. going to a deep trans pan will help

I have the fan on a manual switch..it does have a B&M deep Aluim Pan on It already.im going to switch the lines tomorrow...see if that helps..Im wondering if a big cowl hood would help get rid of some heat too...Car seems to idle at 180 with the hood open no problem....

A 160 stat is a band-aid. It doesn't really address the issue.

My suspect is the fan. Methinks you need a lot more airflow. At 60mph...does the temp climb? If not, airflow at lower speeds is probably your issue.

no the car doesn't have cat convertors...60 mph I don't drive on the highway that much so I couldn't tell you the car is more local streets a lot of stop and go..And why a dcc controller the fan will be on the whole damn time anyways...lol...it will never shut off...Car runs hot it will stay around 180 then climb after its been in stop and go traffic pretty quick...THIS started after the C4 trans was installed with the bigger convertor...DID not do this with the AOD and the mild stall it had...so im guessing the trans is creating a lot of the heat problem...The trans goes thru a trans cooler then the Radiator back to the trans im thinking that has a lot to do with the car running hot too...

If you don't already have one is build a shroud that covers the entire rad surface so the fan can pull heat from the entire rad not just the section that fan attaches.

The B&M super cooler is a nice inexpensive piece that works well. I never put trans through the rad like stock and 3500 is going to build some heat.

what is your timing set at...have you checked you rad hoses to see if they are colapsing? have you pull the rad cap to check flow?

The myth about a 160 stat running better was dispelled many years ago. Sorry, but a 160 stat does not cool better than a 192 or 180. It opens too soon and does not let the heat dissipate enough into the coolant that is either in the engine or radiator. The coolant actually goes to fast. In addition, the stat will constantly be opening and closing. Finally, it can also prevent the EEC from going into closed loop mode, and impact things like your O2 sensors and engine components. For most N/A cars , the stock 192 stat is the best option.

The water flows fine with cap off the water pump in new just installed it last week...I bi-passed the radiator and im running the trans just thru the trans cooler the car ran around 190-195 around town just crusing for about 20 minutes or so...I then got on it a few times it climbed to 200 then I came home opened the hood the temps went down to 190 got in the car drove it a few minutes it climbed to 210...weird I think the hood under temps aren't helping I need like a cowl hood or a turbo hood to let in air...to maybe help cool it down a little..i bet if I took the hood off the car wouldn't get that hot...im giving up I don't know what to do....
