runs choppy when in reverse.

Saturday, I put the car up on ramps on both left wheels only just to look at the parking brake linkage. I didn't touch a thing but it was up on the ramps for about 6 hours.

I took it off the ramps.

Now, when I put it in reverse, it runs choppy. like rolls a foot then jerks, rolls a foot jerks etc etc etc. I put it in neutral and went down a hill backwards. Very smooth.

So, my assumption is the transmission has an issue. I have an FMX by te way.
Any thoughts?

Could some odd angled stress from having the left site on ramps affect the car in anyway?

It sounds like your passenger motor mount is broken and thus when in reverse the engine tries to lift on that side. Put a floor jack under the oil pan with a board between the two and carefully and slowly jack up on the oil pan and watch to see if the motor mount is broken. If it is it will be noticeable rather quickly.

I checked the motor mounts, and they look fine.
Any other ideas.

It appears to somehow be related to being in reverse. Wether I give it gas or not, it has this effect. I can idle backwards and it feels like something is catching every couple of feet.

Check your rear brakes for dragging in rev.
Jack up the rear and turn your wheels like your backing,
the drums are prob catching one of the brakeshoes.

My assumption is that if this were the case, I would have the issue even when in neutral..

It is only happening when in reverse. sounds like something is catching w/ every revolution. very jerky. D 1 2 and 3 are fine though.

I may have to take it in to a shop and have someone else drive it.

Advice

I took it to Eagle Transmission. They said they would look at it for no charge.
After a couple days the guy says "Yup, it is the transmission but it seems to be an internal issue" Duh.

He wants to charge me 280.00 to open it up and look at it but that will go toward the repair cost. He estimated that it could be as low as $300-$400 if it is a revers servo piston or something like that or up to $1200 if they have to rebuild it.

I don't have $1200 right now. I don't want to spend the 280 for him to tell me it is $1200 and I end up telling him to put it back together and I have just lost $280.

Any thoughts on what I should do? Should I garage it and save up for a C4 or something? If so, what should that cost me? Are there other options?

Ever since I got this car people have been saying to me "Oh, an FMX those are tough as nails" I am not sure that is the case.

That transmission place is high. I just had my C4 looked at for $50.00 that went toward the rebuild that only cost $200.00. The whole tranny was rebuilt for $200 and the guy said to bring it back if we had any questions or problems, realizing that service can be a factor in price. I would avoid him, find a local guy that doesn't have alot of overhead or advertising. The best are usually the ones you just "hear about" at a cruise night or something.
