I bought some new slotted and drilled rotors about a month ago. I had them in my garage waiting for some free time. So i go on vacation and my dad comes over to borrow some tools and moves the crate my rotors were in out of his way. OUTSIDE! So i'm cutting my grass yesterday and notice my rotors are on the side of my garage and are rusted completely to the point that they look like total garbage. Is there a good product to remove rust without scrathing the crap out of the surface? I tried that CLR stuff and that didn't work. Am i gonna have to just get out the brillo pads and scrub away?

if they're really shot then don't bother, else I'd be tempted to just fit them then run the car round the block a few times carefully, they will probably clean up fine by themselfs.

However without seeing them it is difficult to tell.

But if you washed your car before going away and left parked outside the disc on it would probably look the same, would you take them off or just drive the car?

If it's just surface rust a few good times brakign will take care of most of it if it's more sever. You are going to have to attack the rust more aggresively. Brillo pads may get it but then I'd worry about the scratches and maybe overdoing and area resulting in you needing to have them turned. Turning them would remove it but then again that is turning. Acid will remove it Muraic(sp) acid most hardware stores carry it not homedepot real mom and pop places but then they will be completely open to elemets and you'll want to coat them in something to prevent them from rusting till you get htem on the car. (light oil then remove before you put on car)

ALL above to be tried at own risk on braking componets.

If the rust isn't real bad then I'd say just slap them on and drive around for a couple of minutes and it will be gone. I don't know if rust has an adverse effect on pads though. My rotors rust after washing the car, so I'd assume its alright. Or you can do like was already said and have them turned. Easy for me to say though because I have a friend in the business who can do it for free. He owns Brake Tech Solutions here in Charlotte.

the rust covers the entire rotor front and back and in the slot cut outs as well as the holes from the cross drilling..they totally look like crap, and i bought them for looks partially(i know i know)but i'm wondering if a machine shop would have something to dip them into. Or i'll try the mild acid route and hit them with some wd-40 till i install them.
