Hello to all, i have a 87 GT thats in pretty good condition but the sunroof in the corners is starting to blister and crack one is really getting bad.
i boat the car 2 years ago and the previous owner had some body work dun to the car and Had it repainted.

the question is does anybody sell a new roof skin fore fox body mustangs, i can't seem to find any, or do i have to have it cut out and redone with sheet metal. A Friend told me to eliminate the sunroof and make it a hard top but thats not the way i want to go.

Any recommendations would be appreciated

I'm a little confused. What's blistered and cracking? Is it the sunroof itself, the weatherstripping around the sunroof, or the recess in the roof where the sunroof fits in? Or am I totally off w/ all three?

If it's the weatherstripping: easy. Just get new weatherstripping online (50resto.com, etc.).

If it's the sunroof itself: just sand it down to bare metal, primer, and paint it. If you do this, may as well replace the weatherstripping as well.

If it's the body around the sunroof: depends on how bad it is. May be something you can do yourself pretty easily if it's just surface stuff.

Hope this helps some. I sanded, painted, and replaced the weatherstripping on mine about 3 years ago and it made a huge difference.

I am sure he is talking about the metal trim that goes around the sunroof glass.

I'm talking about the sheet metal on the corners just above the water drains on the roof itself not the whether strip or the opening part of the sunroof.

Here are some pics so you can see for yourself.

the last owner had it repaired about 3 years ago and however did it must have bin the worst body shop on the planet.

WOW! Thats bad. Probably not the answer you want to hear but with rot that bad, I would say try to find a junk sunroof car and cut out that section and graft it onto yours. Ive never seen one rust like that there. Has it been bondo'd there before or something? Kinda looks like it.

Sorry to say, but I agree. That looks pretty bad.

+1 on looking for a donor car w/ sunroof. I don't know of any place that sells roof skin. If that was already "fixed" once by the previous owner, I would let a reputable body shop at least look at it and give you an estimate. This may give you a better idea what you'd be getting into so that you can fix it right. If it's not done right, it's just going to leak all over the place and/or rot out again. Good luck!

Did you ckeck with a ford dealership to see if any thing is available. If not check with places like www50resto.com or cj pony parts. If they don't have anything they may know someone that does.
