I just built a 306 with a vortech. Everything runs fine and it has a ton of power, but my problem is that when I get on her my dipstick pops off and oil goes all over. Any of you have had this happen? and ideas other than ditch the dipstick or duct tape it as my chevy friend said . Thanks, Mike

The part that pops off the dipstick you pull out to check your oil. Damn thing shoots off like a rocket when I lay on her.

are you still running the pcv system? that will send boost from your intake into your crackcase, and you don't want that

pcv = positive crankcase ventilation. if you have a line running from your oil filler neck to your tb/egr housing, then your pcv is transferring boost from your intake to your crankcase (where the oil is) and popping the dipstick out like a soda pop bottle cap

there is a small rubber hose that runs from your throttle body to your oil filler location. If that tube is not taken off and capped at the throttle body you will send boost down into your crank case which could cause enough pressure to send you oil dipstick flying.

Post some pics of your setup if you dont know what im talking about and Ill point it out for you.

The hose is gone from the TB to filter. How would I go about sealing it?

Its my set up, I just dont know what else it could be. As snoboardcore said should I try a breather on the valve cover? would that work?

If its pressure thats sending your dipstick flying.. then yes, a breather would relieve that and should solve your problem. But it really shouldnt be doing it either way

Just out of curiosity... when you capped the hose at the throttle body.. what did you do to the other end where it connects to the oil filler neck? Is that capped to? Because a ran a hose from that location (filler neck) through a smaller filter and then to the air filter. I suppose thats a point of relieving pressure too.. but its so small I couldnt imagine it causing that bad of a problem.

so is that part of your set-up capped too? Cuz I cant tell from the pic.

This is correct. You need to run a hose from the valve cover nipple to your powerpipe. Looks like you have a UPR powerpipe. I drilled and tapped mine 3/8' x 3/8. This will allow fresh air to enter your crankcase so your PCV system can do it's job. It will also give another path for excessive crankcase pressure to escape. It's also a good idea to install a 3/8 fuel filter in this line to keep any oil out of your powerpipe. Also, you might try replacing your stock PCV valve with one from a Turbo Coupe, or Toyota Supra.

Here's a pic of my modified UPR powerpipe. I modified the bypass valve fitting as well.
