Quick quesion for you Saleen owners, I got a good deal on this S351 a while, back but cannot determine if it is a real Carbon Fiber hood or not. How will I be able to identify that it is a real carbon fiber hood?

Thanks

Does any part of the underside of the hood look or feel like carbor fiber? It will be rough in the center of the hood. Most Saleen carbon fiber hoods were a carbon fiber top layer with a composite frame/base. My old 94-11 S-351 had one of the few all carbon fiber hoods, the top and frame were all carbon fiber...

FASN8N,

The center of the hood is extremly rough, and is non-painted. You can really tell the difference between the type of material that is on the hoods underside. Would there be a brace or something holding the c/f in, cause my mechanic doesn't seem to think it is a carbon fiber. But what does he know.

You have what Saleen calls the "composite" hood. This is what the underside of a real carbon fiber Saleen hood looks like. It is very rare for the sn95's and even more rare on the new edge cars. Other than the race cars I have only seen 2 complete carbon fiber hoods on 99 S351's and that was a long time ago.

Marcus,
That is what mine looks like. It's all carbon fiber. Do you have any idea how many S351 cars got these? I have a crack in the paint on top where it was rubbing on the underside on my intake. Anything special in painting carbon fiber that I should know?

Thanks,Tom

No,

Nothing special about painting a carbon fiber hood. I actually like the way it looks painted. If they don't paint too many coats you can see the "weave" through the paint which I like. A composoite hood painted just looks like a fiberglass good. Zero character.

As for how many cars got these hoods I'm not totally sure. On my S351 (1995) it was an option ( $1,200 ). All I can tell you is what i have heard and only a handful of 94's got them and only half that for 95. They made few 96-98's so I don't believe there are too many out there. I have only seen one other sn95 car on the West coast with one and that was an SR. They got the hoods standard.
