Saab and Experience

Well, I drove a 92 9000 Turbo Saab today, and if a 2.3T is like that in a mustang, I want it, bad. How difficult is it for a beginner to do a turbo swap (no real experience with cars)? Is it difficult? I'm used to not having a car but I hope to have everything I want done before witner so it won't be a problem for school. Any advice?

If you have any kind of winter there I would probably wait until early spring before the swap.
I would say mechanical experience is needed but it would help a great deal if mechanically inclined.
Find webpages like stingers and GT350R's and THEN post here few questions and you'll be ready in no time.

Only thing I can really offer is this- plan a whole lot more time than you think you'll need!

This last spring I dropped a rebuilt engine into my turbo coupe, along with doing some other stuff (front mount intercooler, oil cooler, etc). When I started on a Saturday I figured I'd have the new engine in the car before the weekend was over.

Well, it ended up taking me 3 days just to get the old engine out of the car, and several more days to get the new one in (doesn't help when you're working by yourself to get an engine and tranny into the car together). I ended up having more problems than I expected and it was close to 3 weeks before I had the car all back together (and then it wouldn't start...had to swap out distributors). Of course, this was when I was still in school so I was only able to work on the car a few hours a day after class on the days I didn't work, but you get my point.

Well, like I said, I drove the Saab, and quite frankly, I've never driven a faster car. It wasn't loud, but it was a comfy car, it comfortably seated 4, and it was FAAAAST. I think it'd give a V8 a run for it's money, lol. I mean, you got up to 3,000 RPM and you just got a boost of power and speed if you weren't shifting gears, it was really really awesome. I liked it, I liked it a lot, and I must say, I want that in my car. Mechanical experience? None really. Mechanical know how? Again, none, but that isn't to say I'm not willing to learn. Winter is coming up in about 2, maybe 3 months, but I honestly don't think I have enough experience to do it by then. I also want to have everything that I'm going to be putting in the car before I put it in there, I want the car to be out of commission as shortly as possible, although my mom hasn't been lettting me drive so I'm used to riding my bike. I was hoping to see if one of my buddies wouldn't wanna do it with me so I could learn somethings about cars, would you suggest this route?

Plan on lots of time. My SVO swap took about a day and a half of staight working on it. Granted I was using my works shop to do the swap so having the right tools like hoist, engine lift, and a code scanner to see whats up after the swap was done...
