I need help with the factory Saleen Pioneer stereo.I have car #366 1988.The lights come but it has no sound?? The display lights also,but no numbers.I was told that these have a code that after the battery gets disconnected has to be reset is this true?I bought the car like this.The previous owner said that it used to work.He did replace the battery but could not recall when it stopped working.HELP!!!

yes there is a code to reset the security feature. If you get in touch with Pioneer they can get you the manual on it or at least describe over the phone how to reset the security code. I had to have the security chip replaced on one then it worked, cost me about $100.00. I hope you can reset the code instead of replacing the chip.

I called them last week,and the guy I talked to was like "wow thats a really old radio".He really didnt know what to tell me.He gave me a number to a radio shop near me that deals in Pioneer thats it.Do you know of a direct way to get in touch with someone at Pionner that would know what I need?Any help would be appreciated.Also does what I described sound like what happens when it needs to be reset? Thanks again.

Do You have the EQ as well? Check it and be sure it is coming on as well. Is the display just blank? The default security code is 0000. If I remember correctly, you have to leave the radio ON for 24 hours then re-enter the code. Good luck.

Pioneer Radio

According to the manual from my 88-335 the preset code is 0000 as foxbodysaleen19 stated. After you enter the 4-digit code press the BAND button. If you have entered the correct code PASs will appear on the display for 1 minute and it should work the instant it appears. If you enter the wrong code 3 consecutive times the unit will electronically lock, blocking any input for 3 hours.

Yes eq lights work as well.the display light is on but no numbers.Im going to the garage right now to try what ya told me!!! Ill post back.thanks!!

wait a sec the preset is 0000 so for it to work someone would have had to put their own code in? the numbers only go 1-6 on the radio.because if 0000 is the factory code how would you type it in? sorry if i sound like an a$$.

PAS is "passed" I forget if it starts the buttons with "0" or you count each button until you get to zero.

Funny what kind of rare knowledge you pick up over the years huh?

The funny thing was whn I read V8stang's post I thought it was funny that he actually typed the last "s" in PASs because that is actually how the radio display reads it out when you are on that step. Boy, good memories. I have not thought about that in years.

The 0000 is just the dummy code from the factory. That remains the code unless the owner changed the code to one of his/her liking. If no one changed the code then you will only need to enter 0000 then BAND as the code. Try entering 0000 followed by hitting the BAND button and see if that works. If not you might attempt a few trial and errors of simple codes (ie. 1111, 1234, 4321 etc....)

Ok my question is where do you get the 0 from on the display? Only numbers on there are 1,2,3,4,5,6.

According to this manual, the right (>) side of the < SEEK/MANU > button is the 0.

More numbers for you
9 = left (<) side of < SEEK/MANU >
8 = MONO button
7 = LOC button

So you could potentially have a code of four numbers ranging 1-9

Ok tried it,nothing happened...what was foxbodysaleen19 saying about having to leave the radio on for 24 hours? then re-enter the code....thanks for all the help Im willing to try anything.

I do have one more thing for you to try, straight from the manual. (this is going to be kind of long)..
This will hopefully register a new code as if the radio was just installed new.

1. Turn the ignition key to ON or ACC. Simultaneously press the fast forward and rewinds buttons to eject the cassette ( i guess even if there's not one in there), and press the FAD/VOL knob to switch power OFF. Next press the same FAD/VOL knob while holding down the band button. This should cause the PASs to appear on the display.

2. Simultaneously press both ends of the SEEK/MANU button while PASs is shown on the display.

3. The message COde will flash on the display to indicate that the code registration is now possible.

4. Use the numeric input buttons to register the 4-digit number of your choice. Using numbers 1-9 as shown in my previous post. If you happen to enter more than four numbers the last four entered will be the code.

5. The entered value is registered as the code by pressing the band buttion after imput is complete. The display will be cleared once this is done and normal operation of the unit will be possible.

This the only other thing I know to suggest.
I have read through this manual and I don't see anything about leaving the radio on/off for 24 hours.
