Salvage Yards Disappointment

Went to a salvage yard today hoping to get the parts holding my car back.

I get there and I see there's only 3 four eyed mustangs, and 4 87 and up mustangs. With the selection kind of small I made do.

For example I wanted a set of headlights to hold me over till I could buy a fresh set, I only could find 5 of the 6 parts and paid 48 dollars for it.

The fan shroud and reservoir tank, not a single could be found. Just was super disappointed to get overcharged on in an incomplete lights set and not be able to find the actual important parts I need.

One car worth noting was the 89 that had cobra emblems on the side, racing numbers on it, partial dyed interior pieces, all while having a 2.3l engine in it.
There was also a 86 mecury capri out front and one of the workers there had a GT.

I know how you feel. I recently drove the whole way to Louisville's Pull-a-Part with two '93 in the inventory. They both were four-banger convertibles that had been stripped. It was pretty much a wasted trip other than some Saturn parts, waaa hoo!

That one I went to was a whole hour away. The one down the road has four 2.3s (10 minutes away).
But really, it just is a pain to not be able to find any.

I'm more likely to find interchangable parts for the fox on another car
But I did see about 3 sn95 5.0s and a ton of sn95s that were 3.8s out there. Soooo many.

every mustang that hits the local pull a part has a swarm around it that day. it is amazing how people watch for them to come up for salvage parts. one 92 gt was a shell by the time i got there, had been on the lot less than 24 hours and it was driven in!

Maybe i need them to put me on some priority list for when they get clean fox bodys in -___-. It just doesn't sound like it's worth the pain.

Ive never seen a fox that was worth looking over at a pick and pull. Im half tempted to keep my Mushstang just to save the parts for later.

I've kinda started an old routine again I used to do, but it's for my son's car we are building. I haven't been able to find reasonably priced fox parts in salvage yards for years, so screw salvage yards. I buy parts cars, strip them, sell the unneeded parts on CL, and sell the shell for scrap metal. Basically wind up getting your parts for free, minus time and effort. I've got a wrecked '92 lx hatch out in the back of the property right now with a tarp over it I need to finish picking clean. picked it up for $250 bucks and got a TON of good parts off of it. I'll wash out of it with all the parts we need and no money out of pocket in the end..

I've actually looked for parts cars, I can't ever find one. Everytime I look on craigslist (all over texas) I see cars from 750ish and up. And every other of post of a fox for that much the owner says "I've almost got it running, just tired of sinking money into it." Well great, I don't want the car to get it to run, I want to strip it.

Where do you look? If I found a pretty whole parts car for 250 or 350 i'd pick it up. I never even need engine parts or transmissions, just like a roller with a compelete interior and trim pieces, wiring, relays, the little things.

If I found one, for the right price, it'd be great, there's a salvage yard not 2 miles from me that'd buy it, or right across from it a wrecking yard that'd buy it too. Just need to actually find a parts car.

Just go out and cruise and when you spot one that looks like it hasn't moved in a long time, just go knock on the door. I've bought over a dozen parts cars through the years by doing that. In fact I found a 1985 vert this morning with a cowl hood on it..

I'm also looking for a good salvage yard in my town but I can never find all that I need there. I also dealt with some online auctions, for example I've bought salvage mustang for parts here http://www.easyexport.us/vehicles?c...yTypeSubmit=Search&pageNum=1&mode=showResults I planned to buy parts separately but as I needed many of them, it turned out to be quite reasonable

I actually tried this on my way home and I saw 2 foxbodies parked (botht in good condition though. then I came across two 'salavage yards' that both are on the same road that have about an acre of property each. I called one owner, he slurred his words, anyways, I 'think' he said he has a fox. Being that they're extremely small time and only a 5 minute drive from my house, I'll give them a shot.

The prices for the foxbodys aren't half bad, ill keep this in mind.

GET IT! you could rebuild that whole thing for cheap, some new sheet metal, a little glue, a hammer and done!

Oh and just drop 3000 dollars on a running fox too!

Salvage yard hunting for even reasonably good Mustang parts is a joke. "Entrepreneurs" jump on them the day they roll in and will strip them of any valuable parts, I've seen these guys roll out with wheelbarrows before. Anymore, I'll go to the 'yard if it's something I know I can find on a non-Mustang vehicle, but I pretty much know going in that I'm SOL if it's a Mustang-specific part.

If you're looking for something specific, you can give this guy a call. I met him a little over a year ago, very nice and reasonable, I was considering building a t-top car, and he said that he would sell me a shell with windsheild, doors and door glass, and t-tops for $300. http://carolinamustangparts.com/

The past 2 times when I went to the local junk yard (one of the biggest in Chicago) they had not ONE fox.

with more and more repop parts becoming available at LRS for near the same price as used junk I find myself making fewer trips out.
