It's perfectly safe to sand blast an intake as long as you clean it out properly. The aircraft stripper will react with the paint later when you paint with it.
I would be a little paranoid. I'd think it would be pretty hard to get a piece of sand out if is was stuck somewhere in the bottom of the intake. I wouldn't be against sandblasting but I would be extra safe, I would make wooden blocks or something to seal it, especially when getting near the throttle body entrance. I wouldn't rely on painters tape or rags.clean the intake out, simple solution. not that there is anything wrong with aircraft stripper. But being paranoid of sand particles is ridiculous if you put in a little effort to clean out the intake well. To each his own, ive been fine with both methods
I've never been comfortable blasting an intake. If you leave ANY of the blast media inside and it gets sucked down into your cylinders, it's only going to tear crap up.
I have a friend who destroyed a brand new engine because he had an intake power coated and some media got inside. Started engine up and it ran great!!! For 15 minutes
