All,

When I bought my blower it came with a diablo tuned chip that I installed. Car has ran fine. I put an O/R H pipe on and ofcourse the Check engine light came on.

My question is:

Can the SCT X2 turn off the o2 code even if the car is running off a diablo chip and not the factory ford tune?

Thanks.

to just reset the code, it should work. but it will come back on later. to turn off the O2 sensors so you don't get the code again, you'd need to ditch the Diablo chip and use the X2 with a tune.

So it sounds like the X2 cannot over ride the diablo chip and turning the o2's off can only be done if the chip is ditched, and stock computer is programed using X2.

If I didn't understand you correctly, please let me know.

Thanks!

The XCal 2 will not even function with a chip in the J3 port - even an SCT chip. It will not even datalog with a chip there unless you get a "blocker" cable from SCT. And for the XCal 2 to shut off the rear 02 sensors, the processor must be flashed. If you have an XCal 2, why not sell the chip and just use it instead?

correct. the chip has control. whatever is on the chip, is what the computer runs.

that's weird because i know from personal experience that a Diablo Predator will datalog with a SCT chip installed just fine.

I know a guy who has an X2 and was hoping to borrow it just to turn off the O2's. I'm just a little apprehensive about programming the car myself with an X2. Without the chip, the car just run filthy rich. If I pull out the chip and use an X2 I wouldn't know how to quickly get things back on track without hurting something.

The XCal 2 is VIN locked to his car - he'd have to flash it back to stock to do your car. Then when you gave is back to him, you'd have to flash your car back to stock, so he could use it again, i.e. it cannot be done.

Your least expensive choice is to get MIL eliminators but it won't help your rich condition. Maybe you can get whoever did the chip for you to reburn it leaning it out a bit and shutting off the rear 02 sensors - it's really easy to do in the software.

With an XCal 2, you really do not program it yourself - you get up to 3 base tunes that should be pretty close (depending on who does it for you), all you really do is have to flash the processor which is easy. Than you can make minor adjustments to the tune with the handheld yourself, but you don't have to.

I sell lots of XCal 2's to people and do remote tuning with them. They get the Xcal 2 with 3 tunes I put on it and on a CD I send, they datalog following my instructions, they email me the log file, then I adjust the tune and email them back a file. I've done this for people all over the country and even in Europe and other countries. Seems to work well if the car has no mechanical issues.

SCT just released a new version of their firmware which really helps things out. In fact it's so different, I'm doing a new version of the XCal 2 manual for SCT. If people out there have the older firmware, it's a good idea to upgrade - but you ghave to flash your vehicle back to stock before you update it. All the stuff for updating it is free on SCT's website.

Vert,

Thanks for the info.
In case you get to read this. What Co. do you work for? Internet accessible? I'd rather deal with a member who just replied to this thread than some some average Joe for a burn to help me out.

I'm actually a retired EPA scientist - I've been working with cars/racing all my life and own LaSota Racing Technologies - http://www.lasotaracing.com You can go there and it tells a bit about us.

If you are looking for a reputable shop there should't be any question you should go with them. He literally "wrote" the SCT tuning manual that other shops use, and sounds like they have another book in the works.
