I am new to the Nitrous deal. What are the pros and cons? What do I need to think about getting besides the Zex Kit. Also what is included in the zex kit?

Well, there is always Nitrous Express if you want the most reliable setup but Zex is an easy and straightforward install, especially for the 05 GT. I am the first to go off and install a Nitrous Express package to my car and log it with pictures as well.

I ended up starting with the NX Ford EFI Stage 1 along with the Gen X 2 accessories kit. You would also need to couple an Electronic Throttle Position Switch (TPS) and the Zex 05 GT Ford Returnless Fuel Rail Adapter to get the ballgame started.

Basically you'll have to get creative if you want to do something unlike what many others have already installed, the Zex kit. If you do decide on NX over Zex I hope you know how to draw out your own wiring diagram and then execute your plan cause you'll have to be creative. I had to pull apart the center console and punch a hole in a firewall gromet to get the wires run in the way I wanted to.

Anyways, click on my links in my signature, especially the Nitrous one.

PROS:
Easy to install and uninstall
Inexpensive
great TQ and power

CONS:
Running out of bottle
Can backfire if you engage at too low an RPM, or hit the rev limiter
Must keep an eye on bottle pressure for bestperformance and safety

I have had the ZEX kit on my '05 for the past four months. The kit is a total breeze to install. With the NX kit, you kind of have to piece the whole system together, ala cart. The ZEX kit is totally complete and custom fitted for the '05 Mustang. It comes with the bottle, the correct wires and hose lengths, Nitrous Management Unit, arming switches, etc. The power has been fantastic and I have had no issues, other than trying to get the car to hook up

What do you mean by backfire? What can happen if you engage at too low RPM or if you hit the rev limiter?

Intake manifold blows up.....it's not pretty. With the addition of an RPM window switch, to set low and high rpm activation limits for the nitrous system, this danger is almost completely eliminated.

At 75hp, no tune is needed. Anything higher than that and you need to start retarding some ignition timing.

At the 75hp level, you get approx. 2 min. of full power, liquid nitrous. After that, you will have about 45 sec. of vapor that does not make much power.

When running a Zex Kit or mosty any other basic kit that runs off a TPS (activates at WOT) you want to make sure your around 2500-3500 RPM before it activates or engine damage can occur.

Since most of these kits are fogger intake system they are fairly easy to install and pretty much easy to use.

I'd like to see a nice direct port system and see what kind of HP you guys get.

As for your jetting you always should start off with the smallest 1st.
Then read the plugs. this will ballpark if your runnning lean or super rich.
The large disadvantage of a fogger/intake N2O system is that the N2O is not distributed totally even to each cyilinder compared to a direct port kit. So that makes reading every plug very important cause depending on the engine and intake design , you could run lean in some cylinders and not in others.

For 75 and above HP I personally would use 1 range colder plug when they are available. The issue of using stock plugs is that the N2O will increase the heat in the cyliner. Spark plugs not only provide spark but aslo can reduce or increase heat in the cylinder (colder or hotter range plug) depending on the insulator the plug uses. I believe that most plug maufactors use each range is 100 degrees colder or hotter. It may vary though per manufactor.

What could happen though in a stock plug is the increase heat will cause the plug to turn into a glow plug causing premature detonation (very bad)

here is a link to NX FAQ

One last thing, Do not at any time use gold or Plat plug while on the juice. The gold or plat will separate from the copper core and damage will follow.

Hope I helped out.
