SCT PRP owners: how to tune WOT w/WB O2

I have borrowed a WB O2 (LM-1) and have a cable on the way to hook it to my XCal2 for datalogging. But in the meantime, I hooked it up and I am close in most ranges to where I want to be but my WOT was at 11.6. I purposely left it rich just in case but now that I have the WB I would like to tune this in.

where do I need to adjust to get this right...MAF_Transfer_function or base_fuel_table or aircharge_WOT_multiplier?

I know I need to get the training vid and book but with the holidays and all I cant swing the $$$ right now. :bang:

thanks,
Ed

Stay away from the multipliers.
First dial in the MAF transfer function until it as close as possible to the values in your base ol fuel table. Once you have that dialed in, you can use the base table to make fuel adjustments.

ok...thank you as always jstreet! I only mentioned the multiplier because that is one of the things the local tuner did when he tuned my car but I am starting with a fresh tune. I was using his as a reference and wanted to make sure it was right.

That is the difference between a good tune and a not so good tune. A tuner that is still using multipliers is looking to do it the easy way. The problem with it is that When conditions change the tune will not be able to addapt as well as if he had dialed in the maf curve correctly. BTW, EEC analyzer makes it very easy to dial the maf curve in, since it does all the math for you.

the more I use EA the more I like it. I wasnt sure that it was doing my MAF correctly until I hooked up the WB this morning and watched it as I drove to work. I was idling at 14.4-14.7 and EA was wanting to add a little #/min at that spot. Nice.

another quick question --when I raise #/min ..what is that doing to the tune exactly?

#/min (pounds per minute) is the measurement of the mass of air going through the MAF at a particular voltage. So if you are adding #/min you are telling the eec that there is more air coming through at that voltage than it is currently reading.

so if I understand that right it would cause the eec to add fuel because it thinks there is more air coming in. so if that is right then (+ #/min= + fuel) right? if that is right then I have thought of it correctly this whole time. As you stated, EA does all the thinking but I wanted to know WHY it worked and the HOW it worked.

thanks again.

Another thing I forot to mention, is make sure you turn adaptive off while tuning your maf curve, otherwise, you'll never get it accurate. Don't forget to turn it back on when you are done. Also find your adaptive fuel table. In stock form the majority of tables should have a -11 for the value. Change the value in "all" cells to a positve number like 5. This will make the adaptive learning much better. By default the adaptive learning learns everything from idle. Changing these numbers to 5 will allow it to learn from all rpm and load ranges which is much better.

thank you for the info

I had a friend ride with me for a nice blast at WOT to see how it is running (dont have my cable for datalogging yet) and he was calling off the a/f to me. I started at 12.5 and ended at 10.1 which means I have some adjusting to do.

but here is the strange thing...at the end of that pull I coasted down in gear and my a/f went from 14 all the way to 49-50 for a brief second. it spent most of the time 14 to 20. is this normal? he even noted that everytime I coasted in gear I would hit 20 and then snap back to 14.x as soon as I touch the gas.

That is normal the eec cuts fuel under decel.

Just curious guys......when I finally do order my SCT unit and wide band set up, will it come with the necessary hardware and softwar in order to do my own data logging? I'm great with the theory and the actuall turning of the wrenches, but playing around with the EEC is still pretty virgin territory for me.

I use something other than the SCT stuff since it wasn't out when I got mine, but the datalogging I believe is built into the XCal with analog inputs for the wideband. If you are going to really do your own tuning, you need the PRP. But I think you'd be happy with the extra investment, because you seem to like do things yourself. I'd also reccomend the tuning manual to get you started, but there is alot of good info on the message boards just a little harder to weed through it.

if you can swing the $$, get the PRP w/xcal2 (or wait for the livewire unit), WB, tuning manual, tuning video all at the same time. The dealer you buy it from should give you a tune to start with. But I warn you, the first time you open the PRP software your head will spin and you will get a headache!! lol the book and vid would help ALOT.

edit: also, EA (EEC Analyzer) is worth every penny. it will make tuning the MAF much faster among other things.

Good tutorial on WOT tuning guys!

Depending on who you get the PRP from, you should get everything you need - ask before you buy though. When we sell the PRP and an XCal 2 together, we supply the PRP, the XCal 2 and we include the LaSota Racing training video for free. I also include a USB cable, a CD with your custom base tunes as well as all the SCT value files for any changes you may make down the road - makes changes a snap - this is usually never incuded, but really important. On the CD I include all the downloadable programs SCT has, as well as the LiveLink and Live load flash demos I did for SCT as well as the Powerpoint tuning tutorial I also did for SCT and the full Xcal 2 manual I did for SCT.

Since I wrote the PRP manual for SCT, I can say it is pretty good, though a bit dated. Since I also created the video, I'd say the video is lots better for getting you going. It spells out exactly what you need to log and how to apply it to the tune. It's pretty long with a lot of info, but all the info is really helpful.

So no matter where you guys decide to get the PRPs from, be sure to ask what comes with it. If anybody has questions, email me at [email protected]

hey Don,

I got my xcal2 from you and wish I had got the PRP from you too but I got it from the local guy because he did a dyno tune for me. Funny, now I dont even use his tune and should have got it from you so I could get the vid and files included. Oh well, live and learn. I am still going to get the vid and book from you. Any chance I can get the rest of it from you? :)

i use the prp on my saleen and it runs WAY better than it did before. I also bought the Inovate wideband sensor and made my own cable to hook it up to the analogue input on the xcal2, works brilliantly.

where can i get the video from? ive got the book but the video sounds like a good investment

thanks

I sell the video to anybody that wants one - you don't have to have the PRP - and if you have a PRP and got it somewhere else, I'll still sell it - no problem. I can also sell the book to anyone who wants it - I don't have it listed on my website because it is a bit dated as far as the hardware goes, but the basic tuning info is good. The book is quite expensive too - $75 each.

For the video - go to our website http://www.lasotaracing.com

Thanks,

Don
