On a 93 5.0 is there a seal on the front of the engine like the rear main seal? If so whats involved in replaceing it? Do i need to pull the oil pan? Is it a press in type seal like the rear main is? peace

the one the crank snout comes through? or the one under the timing cover? if its the one the snout comes through just get a flat haed screw driver and pry it out. then use a hammer and a small block of wood to pres the new on on.

if its the one under the timing cover you have to remove the timing cover.

The seal under the timing cover is the oil pan gasket. For the crank seal you have to take off the timing cover to remove and press in the seal.

No you dont need to drop the oil pan, just the first four bolts on the oil pan that holds the TC. And be careful when you take out the TC because the oil pan gasket can rip, and this could be bad if you have the 1-peice gasket, then you would have to drop the pan or use RTV.

there is actually a specific seal that goes around the snout that the harmonic balancer rides on. it's in the timing cover itself. I think you have to pull the timing cover to replace it, but memory doesn't serve me here. If you do, I'd replace the oil pan gasket too...the one piece felpro unit works best.

it would be easiest to yank your drivetrain out for this work

it's got a brand new rear main and fel pro 1 piece oil pan gasket. i was hoping not tohave to pull the pan! It hardly drips i'd say 6 or so drips when it sits for like 3 months. but i do get some light splatter on the fenders between oil changes. if i have to pull the motor i'm doing it when i drop the 351 in. just courious if i could change it like a rear main? peace
