I just replaced the seatbelt in my 89 GT and it doesnt lock up when I pull really hard on it. Do these seatbelts lock up like most other cars? Are they attached to the brake some how? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated

Sometimes seatbelts will lock up if you pull real hard on them, but not all the time. The way to test them is to get up to speed (25 mph will do), mash the brake, and pull the belt as you slow down. The belts are not hooked into the brake system, but are activated by rapid decelleration.

TRWXXA is correct. Seat belts should NOT lock up just by pulling on them quickly. They operate using a pendulum that swings when the car is under deceleration. If you perform a panic stop, the belts should lock. But just tugging on the seatbelts is not a valid way of testing them.
