seats and headlights

Since I am going to be needing my 67 stang for a 5.5 hour trip between home and college in the future, i was wondering what are some comfy seats that bolt in, and whats some nice bright headlights to put in?? I know im the 65 you could have the headlights on bright and they were still dim, no one even flashed their lights to get you to turn yours off.

I bought the bright lights from NPD for my 67 coupe. I'll be installing them this week. I'd check out 626 buckets.

mazda rx7 seats bolted into my car very easily. i gotta go 6 hours to my school (CalPoly) and its a good firm yet inexpensive bucket. plus it has a head rest

i put Sylvania XTra-visions (55/65watts) and theyre deffinitly better than dang incandescents. those cool blue ones arent blue, if you want composite bulbs, go to sacramento-mustang's website, they have composites.

Whatever you choose for bulbs, you can benefit big time from rewiring your headlights to use relays. I was getting about 9.3 volts at the headlights through the 40-year-old stock wiring and switch. I rewired them with relays and 12 ga. wire with a dedicated ground, and now get full power. That alone changed the light output from yellow to white again, then I just popped in your run-of-the-mill halogens from Advance Auto and it makes a world of difference.

what relays do you use??? And you are saying just replace the headlight wiring with 12ga wiring???

I know two guys who have these seats (Rally 2000) in their cars (a 66 and a 69). Very comfortable with pretty good bolstering for the turns (both cars see track time, but are also street driven). I have another seat from Procar, but it isn't as comfortable as the Rally seats, plus the Rally looks great in a vintage car (mine are racing seats, but still fairly comfortable).

I just did a 14 hour roadtrip in my '73 with stock seats. It really wasn't that bad. What was bad was my timing suddenly going from "correct" to about 90* retarded. Now that'll keep ya from falling asleep on the road.

As for headlights I found an old set of SEV Marchal Euro French Spec headlights. THey have that straight across cutoff and then a 15* up angle to the right. They do a beautiful job of lighting up the road while not blinding oncoming traffic. I'd highly recommend searching for a 7" sealed beam conversion with a european (right side of the road) beam pattern. Cibie' makes some I believe. Hella might as well.

Stay away from those blue tinted bulbs..They do nothing but restrict the amount of light that goes through to affect the color output. If you want brighter up the wattage and beef up the wiring with relays as 67CoupeDriva had said. That alone with stock bulbs can even make them brighter. Good luck on your road trip, and I hope you don't run into problems along the way as I did.

There was a link for dual headlights but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Any ideas on the schematic location for this. I think it would be the same except you now have 2 extra headlights and instead of the 2. Please let me know if I am over or under thinking this.

You can do the headlamp upgrade in two stages:

1. Install relays and heavier wiring from relays to headlight bulbs. There are schematics online - do a search for "headlamp upgrades". If you'd like a prefab wiring kit, Painless Wiring makes a nice setup (part # 30815). You just plug the old headlight socket connector into the Painless wiring harness, making it a snap to go back to the factory configuration. You will see an improvement if you do nothing else. Or, you can continue to step 2...

2. Buy and install a pair of H4 Halogen E-Code (European-spec) headlamps. Standard wattage is adequate - it's the reflector design that makes these things so outstanding. Marchal and Cibie' are French-owned companies with little interest in the U.S. market, but their products are top-notch (and the prices show it). You might be able to find these headlamp kits at a local import auto parts shop (I found a pair of Cibie' Z-Beams on the discount table!), but the easiest to find online are the Hellas. You'll wonder how you put up with those U.S. DOT-spec buggy lanterns for so long!

***Caveat: DO NOT purchase the Hella "Vision Plus" lamps. If you're going to pay for lamp retrofit kits which use the H4 halogen bulbs, get the E-Code lamps. The Vision Plus units look similar, but have a DOT-approved reflector. In this particular case, the Europeans got it right.

As for the seats... I have a pair of '87 T-Bird Turbo Coupe seats in my '65 Fastback, adapted to use the '65 seat track assemblies (there's a thread here on this swap). Similar "Recaro-lookalike" seats were in Mustangs and even Escort GTs of that period.

i know many people have done this, but i picked up a set of buckets for $300 from a base model 95 mustang in black cloth, and they fit perfect! Even though they dont have the bolsters (sp.?) of the GT's, they are sooo much better. Just put your old tracks on the new seats and drill 2 new holes. Thats it! Now i have $400 in my pocket to buy some more stuff (i almost got the procars)

Um... 4 headlight would use the same principle. The original wire out to the headlights would be used to trigger the relay(s). If you are worried about enough juice for the extra headlights you could use 4 relays (2 low beam, 2 high beam).

Right now, I'm running the headlight relay and the Sylvania SilverStars. those lights are bitchin'. Bright white, not a hint of yellow or blue.
