Seeking advice on disc brake conversion--

I like the idea of a complete kit for a front disc conversion- 66 'vert 351W. I'll have 15" wheels. Can anyone offer advice/opinions about SSBC, Baer or Wildwood? NPD sells the SSBC super duty kit w/ 11" slotted rotors, 4 piston calipers at $1395. The kit looks similar to Baer, but the Baer kit is a couple hundred more. SSBC also has a cheaper kit around $925. All come with a dual master. Any thoughts?

who makes that kit??


IF I were going to spend that much money on a kit, I would go with SSBC and get the 13" brake adn get some new wheels/tires. The 11 inch would fit nice with your wheels but thats an expensive kit. For a cheaper kit I say Wilwood brakes.. If you have a big hole in your pocket, get SSCB Force 10 brakes

Parts are from OEM mannufactures, includes a ten year warranty.

I did the SSBC from NPD on mine. Other than brake fluid and grease it all fit with no problems. Quality seals and bearing came with the kit. All the hose's and metal lines fit and were right. I was very impressed with the kit. Pictures are in the link below.

Don't forget the wilwoods cause a significant track change in the car meaning your 15 inch wheels will no longer have the correct Back spacing.

I run the standard SSBC with slotted rotors (front and rear) on my stroker power 65....they stop VERY nice

what is "significant" because I was planning on doing front brakes and rims all at the same time. I was only thinking about wilwood because they seem a hell of a lot cheaper then everyone else.

.75 to 1 inch. You would have to ask someone with them on for the exact change. I think Cloney ended up buying custom backspaced rims since he wanted to get wide tires in the front and off the shelf wasn't working for him.

I love my Baers....front & back. Easy install, and the car stops great. No change in the front track; slightly wider in the back. Kit came with everything I needed, except fluid...just under $2400 delivered.

I put a SSBC A120-2 kit on my 66. The A120-2 is the Force 10 aluminum caliper kit. The only snag I had was that the original copper gasket bewtween the caliper and the brake line did not work somehow. Had to get others to make it stop leaking.

I also put a A111-2 kit on the rear. This kit made me say a few choice words because I could not find a way to mount the bracket for the parking brake cable without the cable being a little too short.... I had to release the cable from the brackets underneath and they now go in kind of a straight line from the front anchor point to the bracket on the brake.

Another small issue was the proportioning valve. Had to do some bending to a couple of lines to make it fit.

Other than that I am happy as I can actually stop the car now in a reasonable distance.

If I remember right the A120-2 was $995 and the A111-2 ran $645 at MustangsUnlimited

I had the same problem with the SSBC A111-2 kit. How are you supposed to route the !@#$ brake cables?

That aside, the SSBC kits were, overall, well thought-out and installed easily. Oh, and they used cheapo lock nuts that really should have been replaced with Grade 8 ones. They stop well, too.

Agree on the nuts.

Next time I got the car in the air I will take some pictures on how I 'routed' the cable.
