Ok, so my new long block is on the way here and I keep thinking maybe I should try to do it myself and save about 2g's in labor so I can still do some stuff with my stereo and not have my wife cut my jewels off.

I this something a couple amature mechanics can do in a weekend or should I just pay the dough and cry myself to sleep for a few days?

it all depends on your level of shade tree mechanics. what's the most difficult project you've tackled?

Changing oil... Bwahahah.
I've done LT's on my car, changed the clutch with the god damn long tubes on, lowered the car. i've done brakes up the ying yang... Most of my friends have done the same. Good thing is it's a long block so all there is to do is put all the crap back on it no messing with valves pistons and such.

Should be cake. It's a tedious job, but not really that difficult. There are difficult ones out there, but our cars are pretty damn simple.

You'll just have to swap over any components necessary, drop the engine in bolt it up to the motor mounts, bolt the tranny up (which you know how to do), and then sort out all the wiring. Even the wiring isnt that difficult because even if you dont know what everything plugs into, the connectors are different and the harnesses retain some shape; based on harness shape and length you should be able to figure it out even if you didnt take the engine out. Just takes time. If you have time, you can do it.

I am about the same level as you, and in a week I just swapped to a 4 Valve, aeromotive fuel system with a vortech and changed all of my suspension.

it isnt bad man. I would tell ya to drop the K member, but on a 2V it isnt to bad ... but with LT's it might be worth it for ya to drop it to the ground and come out the top. then you can leave both headers attached to the motor.

when ya get the new motor in the bay, leave it on the lift and jack the K member back into place.. pretty easy.

Lift...? who said anything about a lift?
I'll have an engine crane, hopefully thats enough to move it in and out.

thats what I am referring to. I dont have a lift either. I put the car as high as I could on the jack stands and let the K member hit the floor.

just gives you alot more room to work with.
