Sequential Tail lights

Ok here is the part I dont understand; Is there a module that causes the lights to blink? If so would not the power to the turn signals go on and off, how would the sequencial circuit work? Does it bypass the blinker module. Does the new cars even have a blinker module, maybe it is done with the bulbs?
I really want this mod for my car, I would just like to understand if it really works the way I would want it to before I buy it, or Santa brings it.

Here is my best(non-electrician) layman's explination...The sequential turn signals use a relay in the harness that puts power to each bulb one at a time...in sequence, whereas the stock relay puts power to multiple bulbs at the same time. The bulbs have nothing to do with it in the case like the CDC kit...in fact you reuse your factory bulbs. Perhaps a more qualified person could step in to explain more in detail. I hope that helps clear it up a bit AP.

Ok well out of all of this I got an answer. So if there is anyone else interested here is what I was looking for.

The power to the turn signals is turned on for a finite period of time, about 2 seconds. The sequential turn lights use this time to turn on three lights in order over the time. What I wanted to know was there some kind of modification that caused this time to extend, enhansing the sequence effect. What I understand is that the sequence of the lights occur in the interval of a single, normal, blink of the turn signal.

mustang monthly has an install on an 05. Go there and read it. They did the splice kit but most people just do the plug and play swap. I did the splice kit on mine cause I wanted to spend less on this mod.

This is a no brainer, the best way to go is buy CDC's dynamite sequentials turn signal kit. Three year warranty and they plug into your standard Ford wiring harness, clear directions, about 30-40 minutes to install. They cycle fine...............

i have not seen the components to the kit so i dont know the quality.. i have a question tho. is there ANY splicing at all required? if so how much. the only reason i ask is because when these cars were fairly new i (to the best of my memory) saw an article the required you to remove the back seat and splice quite a few wires for this mod

and if its only a plug in kit how come its an estimated 30-40 minutes? i mean i do understand takeing out trunk panels and tail lights but that seem to me to be less time then that??

You will spend about 30 minutes buy taking your time to make sure everything goes smoothly. You have to take the trunk panel out. Remove each light, change the harness and move the bulbs over to the new harness, put the light back in and test it.

I have the CDC's and it was a very simple mod. The only things you have to watch out for is not to break a bulb when swapping or scratching your bumper removing and replacing the lights. The only thing that got me was I have the Shaker1000 and did NOT remove the subs. That made the passenger side take way longer than it should have. I did the driver side in about 10-15 minutes...the other side...30+(no problems, just very cramped quarters working with 2 of the 3 retaining nuts). End results were sweet so it didn't matter that it took longer!!!

BTW..it is just a simple unhooking of the factory harness and snapping the new harness on and replacing the rubber grommet onto the new harness as well.

I never took the time to analyze how they work, I saw a set of sequential turn signals on a Mustang a few years ago and knew I had to have them! I have had them in my last 4 cars.
I bought mine from Webelectric Products http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm
and just plugged them in and was done. These are one of my favorite mods on my cars, and Larry at Webelectric has the best product out there in my opinion.

Sir I ordered my set from CDC two days ago. There $150.00 + $10.00 for Fed EX shipping. I asked a few questions of them, like since my stock 07 tail lights have break lights on the two outside lights, and a running light on the inside on each side, do I need double filiment bulb's for the inside two lights?

I just thought that since there is no brake light on the inside it must have a single filiment bulb. Not so they say. All the bulbs are double filiment the stock set up just doesnt have a wire to the inside ones for that. So this means we will now have all six lights in the rear light up upon braking, but even cooler than that....they sequence once when you hit the brakes and then stay on like normal till you let off the brake.

I looked at the installation instructions on the CDC web site and you could train a chimp to do the swap! Just un plug your stock harness, and plug in the sequentials using the same bulbs you had in the stock set up.

Mine will be here next week, if you havent allready bought your's I will post here about it.. Best of luck!!!

Do you have the Shaker1000 Warlok? If so, it will make it a lot easier on you if you remove the sub box to get to 2 of the 3 retaining nuts on the passenger side...I found out the hard way. It might not save you any time, but will prevent cut, scraped and cramped hands and curse words from flying...lol. It was still well worth it IMO.

BTW, you also pop the rubber grommet off on each side and transfer over to the new harness as well.

No sir, I have the Shaker 500, so my trunk is open on both sides. But thanks a lot for the info. I cant wait to get em in there, and check em out!

Warlok, one word of advice, if you don't know it already. Take care in removing the tail light assembly from the car as there is nothing between the plastic housing and your painted bumper to protect it if you move wrong or to quick!!!! I didn't scratch mine at all, but was unaware of the lack of clearance when I started.
With the sequentials, I have no reason NOT to use my signals each and every time!!!! I love 'em eventhough it is one mod I will rarely ever see...lol!!!!!

Hey Kooldawg6, thanks for the advise. I admit I am pretty un easy messing with my brand new car, but I will be very carefull. My Stang is black scratches are gonna show big time, so that aint happining!

But you're right about the mod and not being able to see it most the time. Just knowing it looks cool is good with me. I know I will stand in back and watch them. I guess when you turn on the emergency flashers, they sequence too.
