Roush Serial Numbers

I found out a little information on the production numbers from Liz at Saleen that kind of suprised me.

My car was the 24th "E" produced in 2002 even though it's number 0012. The car was pre-ordered but wasn't built until June of that year. Just thought it was interesting that the serial numbers have nothing to do with production order. I'm pretty much a Saleen noob though, the rest you are probably like "duh, idiot". :D

There were 101 grey coupes produced that year. Of those, 6 were "E" cars. Not sure how the others break down.

Yea,

Isn't it interesting what you can find out about your car if you ask? That's another special reason for owning a real Saleen. It is born and has instant documented history. My car was ordered at the beginning of the year and delivered later in the summer but recieved a high bumper number even though they started the build in Jan. Yes, the bumper numbers mean something but not always what you think. :D

Here's a good one for you.....My speedster is car number 01 for 1997, but it was the last 97 S351 built?? It was built with the early 98 S351 cars, built to 98 spec's and was used as the press car for the 98 model year (sales brochure cover car, magazine test car, etc...) If you think that is carzy, Ron Ward has 86 Saleen Hatchback #01, but it wasn't even built or delivered until 1989???????? Try and figure that one out for awhile.......

Ron Ward?!? I wonder if that's the same Ron Ward I bought my car from. Would the guy you're talking about happen to live in South Bend, Indiana and works as a saleen dealer?

That's a cool history on your car. Hope you bring it to the show in two weeks.

Nope, different Ron. This Ron lives here local in Orange, CA. I was interested in buying the car from him so I could have the last carberated saleen and first fuel injected saleen built. However, once he won Steve's Personal choice award at the Saleen Show two years ago, the price tag on the car tripled. Not worth it at this point in time, besides.......its not white :p

But of course!!! In fact, if I can find a second driver, I will be bring the coupe as well. And if someone wants to donate about $10,000 to restore the burnt remains of my 85 Saleen, I would bring that one too :nice:

I'll admit, I am new to the Saleens, but find them very very attractive. Do the speedsters actually have a soft top?? Can you provide more info?

Thanks!

Thank you so much for the pics.. GORGEOUS CAR! Exactly what I have in mind... Im looking for white or red.

Where do you put the speedster top, when the soft-top is up? I doubt it fits in the trunk. I guess that is my primary concern..
I was flipping through a magazine and saw that a company called "Cervini's", makes a speedster style tonneau cover, but it is too pieces rather than one for fitment in the trunk. That makes alittle more sense to me, rather than cramping the speedster tonneau into the inside of the car with the top up and risk damaging the interior and being rather cumbersome inside...

Let me know how ya do it!

Ouch on the burnt car. At least the whole thing didn't go up. I can believe that caused one hell of a backup. Its not often you see a saleen on the freeway, but to see one on fire... damn. Probably had a few car guys with tears in their eyes at that site. I know I would have.

Aren't you coming up on the anniversary of the heat incident?

It happened coming home from BCMC Wings and Wheels Expo at the Los Al Air Force Base in August of 2001. Actually today is the anniversary when I first bought the 85 Saleen.....04/01/98. Can't believe its been 7 years since my obession with Saleen began!! :nice:

I'm not exactlly the crying type, but to watch your own car go up in smoke and you can't do a damn thing about it other then watch......I learned two valuable lessons that day:
1. if you smell gas, don't try to nurse it home.......TOW IT!!!!
2. always carry a fire extinguisher in the car
The worst part of it all was I was less then 2 miles away from the house when I smelled the gas leak. Goes to show you how quickly raw gas can ignite!!

That was only the second time in three years of ownership that I actually had the top up. If its not speedster weather, I drive the coupe and leave the speedster in the garage!! That picture was a car show in December in Yorba Linda when it began to rain

The tonneau cover does fit inside the car with the top up but is very difficult to drive with. Luckily, my girlfriend was there with her car, so the tonneau cover caught a ride home with her.....I agree with Marcus, I've heard that the two piece tonneau from Cervini makes alot of noise and doesn't look quite the same. If the weather is questionable, leave it home in the garage.

Oh, I thought the '85 went ablaze on your way back from the Knott's show.

Well happy anniversary anyway! You really need to resurrect your '85.

OH MY GOD! that poor 85 Saleen. i feel so bad for you & the car. i am a huge fan of the early fox Saleens & cannot believe what i saw. i hope plans of a rebuild happen smoothly for you ;-)

Its been in " rebuild plans" since the fire was put out....Everytime I have the money to begin the project, something else comes up. I do have another 85 Mustang GT as a donor car for parts, bought that about 1 year ago. How about one of you call the show overhaulin' and get them to fix it! I'll play dumb when I come home and it is "stolen" :nice:

Nice.

So are you going to figure out what I'm going to do with two mag rears yet? Maybe make a couple of coffee tables out of them?
Quit it with the overhaulin. You know Chip would paint it silver and make some 20" retro 10 hole wheels for it. Not to mention addinf some autometer gauges and a big stereo. YOu would hate it. :D then have to sell it because what would we do if it was not white? :D
