SERIOUS BOGGING PROBLEM at the track

I raced my car friday, i had the best trap speed i have ever had at 100 mph. But there is a catch. I ran a 15.1. When the light went, i dropped the clutch and the tires began to spin, the car reved to about 5,000 and then almost totally died on me on the middle of the track, just sputtering and not wanting to go. So i let off of the gas ans slammed it again and the car sprung to life, slammed it to second and i was on my way. And thanks to all of ur guys advice, i shifted at 5,500 rpm and she was purrrring. I slammed all the gears and ran a great trap speed, if it wasnt for the dang bogging problem i would have run one of my personal best times. The second run, the exact thing happen. I was so pissed. So i was told by one of the people at the track that instead of dropping the clutch wich is causing me to spin like heck, he told me to feather the clutch out and get her rolling, then stomp it. Well that might work, but i still dont know what the heck the car is doing when it bogs like that. I need help please. thanks u guys are the best.

Carb dry

sounds like you are running out of fuel, ie. the fuel bowls are emptying faster than the pump can fill-em back up again.
Check the float levels to make sure they are filling to where they are supposed to be..... and maybe check fuel pump function.
Just becuase it's a Carter fuel pump doesn't mean it may not be working at full cpcpacity.

I'd take Mach1Steve's advice.

By the speed, it sounds like the car is capable of high 13's.
BTW, that seems like it really runs for the mild combo you have!!

), it sounds like you are not getting enough fuel. the edelbrock/carter carbs have float bowls that are somewhat small, so you need more fuel pressure than a holley would. i would say dump the carter pump in favor of a holley blue pump.

edelbrock / carter carbs can't take more than 6psi with out blowing the gaskets. holleys on the other hand can take up to 7.5psi without blowing a gasket. unfortunatly i learned from exper.

i with other guy - slipping the clutch will help more than drop the clutch and you also are running out of fuel. also you might need to upgrade your fuel line if you plan on doing any other mods

As has been mentioned, fixing that fuel problem will cure the bog, but also, installing a Demon carb would be worth some hp.

I have had a similar problem twice. Once was a bent push rod. Once it bent, the motor wanted to die bad, them it caught itself like it was starving for fuel. I didn't even know 'till I pulled off the intake to change to a victor Jr.(that junk got taken back off.) The other is just like the guy at the track said. Hook then goose it. When you spin there isn't a HUGE load on the carb. But when I decides it wants to hook and the pedal is mashed, your pump shot is gone. No gas to throw at it. I would try keeping your foot from mashing the pedal 'till you hook. If not, let up and try to get the pump to fill back up then jab it, and try to keep it out of the wall. Good luck man.
