Ok well me and some friends are installing my steeda Underdrive Pullies and we are almost done and we began threading on the balancer pully with the bolt that steeda supplied to get it started on and my friend tightened it all the way down like a JACKASSS!!!!!! and broke most of the bolt off with just less than a half inch in the crank. he said a mechanic could tap the bolt and unscrew it but it MIGHT throw off the crank and that would be SERIOUS. does anybody know if that we tapped the bolt and unscrewed it if it would jack up the crank at all??? I NEED YOUR SERIOUS INPUT

You don't have many other choices.. you can either tac weld a nut to whats left of the bolt and back it out that way our your going to need to tap it. Good luck dude.. and stick your friends tongue in an electrical socket afterwords.

I had a bolt broke off of my valve cover on my 5.0 once and I went to sears and bought a bolt retraction kit (30.00). Took me 15 minutes and I was back on the road. Your bolt might be harder to remove, but it might work.

Ive seen a dozen or so threads like this one, bring it to a good mechanic and they will be able to fix it for you, but it won't be cheap. Try searching on here for what others did to get it out.

Ive never been so PISSED OFF IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. you guys think ill need a whole new crank???? GOD I HOPE NOT but i dont know if the bolt retraction kit will really get it out ya think? im in need of HELP

Give the kit a try. You might be suprise. And I really doubt your crank is bad.

well i finally got the pulle off and that bolt is in there a ways so the kit is still worth a shot???

You will have to drill into the bolt, so you might have a clearance problem with the radiator, but with patience, I think you can do it.

Look.. don't give up yet. You need to get the kit.. try it.. you will proly have to drop your radiator to get a drill in there. you just need to take your time and try it.. if you are afraid to try it.. you'll have to pony up the money and take it to a mechanic to get it out. I'd beat the **** out of your friend.

Get the old bolt out with a bolt removel kit.

No big deal every body strips a bolt. I was able to go up at least 1 size (non metric)and tap my bolt.

Without removing anthing I was able to take a drill bit that came with the tap set, and turned it with my hand to remove most of the old thread; this took about 10mins. Then I hand tapped the new thread, about 5 mins.

Make sure your new bolt is "not" longer than the old bolt(error on the short side if you have too. Also spray (cleaner or WD40)out the tap hole after you finish so the bolt will thread all the way in.Make sure you get a bolt with the same or more harndess.

Piece of cake, no big deal!!! Remember people who never make mistakes will never learn to do their own work!

Your new bolt will be larger and stronger than the old bolt.

Well look at the bright side even if your crank is fux0rd just get you a cobra crank to replace it and some forged rods pistons and your in business!

Thanks a bunch guys you making me feel more confident about my situation hehe and as for my friend i want to kick him square in the nuts right now becuase he is ALWAYS ****ING WITH MY CAR!!!! he has broken more chit on my car than i can even remember becuase he is a disrespectul little chit and doesnt care about anything else other than HIS STANG! I HATE HIM!!!! i should sue his ass!!

I've had to extract a bunch of bolts in my time. Here are some helpful tips.

If the bolt broke because it was over tightened, you might be able to get it. If it's cross threaded or bottomed in the hole, you're bummin.

First, and MOST IMPORTANT, before you drill, use a center punch and make a nice little dent centered EXACTLY in the middle of what's left of the broken bolt in the crank. You don't want to be drilling into the threads.

The bolt is probably made from a high grade steel so you'll want to buy a few new, sharp drill bits. Better yet, cough up the $ for some good Cobalt bits. Use a ton of oil to keep the bit cool while you drill. Try really hard to keep the drill straight and square. Start with a smaller bit and work your way up to the size needed for the extractor.

Be patient and whatever you do, do NOT break the extractor off in the hole. If you think it's going to snap, you can go to the next size up but do not let it break.

Oh yeah, if you pulled your pulley back off, tape up the front seal so the chips won't fall in.
