I decided its time for me to take my car to the local legal drags. I would like to build up the rearend first though. Are welding the torque boxes the only thing I'll really need to do? My motor is pretty stock so I'm not doing any serious power but I would like to beef up my rearend before anything. Are moser 31 spline axles another good idea? Thx guys

For drag only, Full spool and definately some after market axles. C-Clips keep the axles under the car if something breaks.

I am one of those people that are on borrowed time. 1.7 60' with stock everything!

To change the axle splines, you need a new traction lock or spool, or what ever you chose becasue that is where the splines mate to.

With axles, the 8.8 is plenty strong.

We just built up my rearend with many components. It now allows us to leave the line at 5,000 rpm's without spinning the tires at all.

Components included the following:

1. 4.30 gears
2. Detroit Locker NO-SLIP positraction unit.
3. Superior 31 spline axles.
4. 3 inch lug studs.
5. Southside Machine Lower Lift Bars.
6. Steeda adjustable uppers.
7. Competition Engineering 50/50 drag shocks.
8. Air Lift's rear airbag kit.

I know that you're pretty stock right now but if you build it, you may as well do it right. You can add components as you go. Also, I'm sure that the Moser axles will be good for you. Good luck!

I really wouldn't be worried and just run it as is. I really dont' see your motor doing any damage to the rear. Especially if your planning on using street tires or drag radials. Hard launches on slicks might take there toll eventually but if your not planning on seriously drag racing all the time. I don't see the need to go through all the trouble just for a few passes. Just me.

I think there are other mods that will help your car get down there. If you are getting one wheel peel or a heavy bias to one side, rebuild the traction-loc and that is you will reall need.

Rear suspension is a must. Sickier tires first. Firmer lowering springs do not help. Disconnect the front swaybar. Get some upper and lower rear controll arms. I have HPM's, they are good.
