Setup with 5-8psi Supercharger?

Okay...presently all stock...well, magnaflow catback, crappy hedman headers (orig. owner, rusted, bleh!)...

Within a year, I am planning on buying and installing a low psi (5-8) supercharger (I guess I should also ask for suggestions as to which one...want some form of intercooler/aftercooler...and self-oiling would be nice)...

Anyway, I am considering upgrading these items...would they be a good choice? If not, what different? What else to consider? Any brand recommendations?
-75mm MAF
-75mm Throttle Body
-Upper/Lower Hi-Flow Intake (Looking at the new BBK one)
-Lightweight performance Heads (type? brand? reason?)
-Performance Cam
-Injectors (what # would be safe both before the SC and after getting it?)
-Fuel Pressure Regulator (Type? Brand?)
-New Fuel Pump (Do I need new lines too?)
-Need a chip?
-Need new ignition control?

This is a daily driver...and yes, I would like a nice SMOOTH idle as I drive in Atlanta traffic quite often and am used to sitting in LONG lines on the Interstate. I also want to somewhat keep the "decent" gas mileage (heh, 25ish HWY) but can lose it a TINY bit if the power and "stock" feel (no odd issues, like it was "meant to be") are there.

Thanks! (PS, if you just want to send me to a website with FAQs or something, that is fine with me)

hmm.. i wouldnt get a h/c/i car with a supercharger if you daily drive it, sit in traffic all the time, and want good mileage. 400+ hp and mileage dont go together necessarly.

anyways..

i would recommend the edelbrock rpm performer II intake, edelbrock performer heads, custom ground cam, mass air meter looks ok, 70mm tb, msd ignition, not sure on your injectors.

you want a self-contained blower with no oil lines? pretty much puts you with a powerdyne. which is also silent, and ive heard mixed opinions on them.

a good entry level blower with moderate noise i would recommend the paxton novi 1000.

also keep in mind, im assuming your paying someone for all this? you will pay out the ass in the end especially for the blower install. then you'll need it tuned, chips burnt, very expensive.

hope that helps you somewhat

Why pay for it when I have my own hands...heh, wow I can see the dirty minds work overload on that one...

By mileage, I mean I would still like to make it home from college on one full tank (220 miles) at the very least. And if it gets too bad to sit in traffic (I want good idle, but if trying to edge fwd is difficult with the insane power) I will go the "scenic route" thru some nice GA backroads.

Isn't the Procharger oil line free? Has self-oiling system?

oh ok 220 a tank is pretty easily kept. i get 330 a tank in mine and i have everything except a cam.

i was just assuming, no idea if you planned on doing it yourself or not. that will save you an insane amount of money right there.

not familiar with procharger honestly. im poor so i always look at the cheaper blowers (powerdyne, novi 1000, ect) :D

Yeah...I am looking to be somewhat cheap if I can...Gotta save my money...about to graduate, go for my masters, not to mention serious gf so certain expenses will arise there :D...more of finding the best deal though as opposed to going for less quality

i would do the things like MAF, injectors, intake, throttle body and fuel pump along with a procharger or something like that. That way, you wont have to invest a ton into the heads. if you dont wanna swap out cams, just find a set of 1.7 rockers to help that stock cam out a bit.

i couldnt tell you honestly.

i fill it, zero the odometer and my gas light comes on at about 290. i drive it up to 330 and fill again. at 330 its probably close to an 1/8th under the last bar. maybe its not even running on gas beyond there? :D

last time i did my fuel pump, i drove it down to that point and when we dropped my tank i had probably half a gallon or more.

i have an extra low custom overdrive and do quite abit of freeway driving. thats the only thing i could conclude, always doing a consistant 1700-1800 on the freeway.

Are you dead set on a centrifugal blower? If a low boost application is what you’re looking for, you’ll get more back for the buck out of a Kenne Bell twin screw (http://www.kennebell.net/superchargers/ford/mustang50/mustang50.htm) set up then you will out of a Powerdyne or ATI. Loads of low end torque where you want it and you don’t have to wait for the RPM to climb to make power. Not only that, but at 5-8psi, intercooling isn’t really necessary to make good power on either blower.

Why would I need a new speedo gear? I haven't done any mods as of yet that would affect it. Maybe I am missing something?
He means since you swapped in the 3.55's. If you didn't switch the speedo gear after the swap, then it could be throwing you odometer and speedo for a loop.....but I'm sure you already know this.

how much HP would a 5-8psi supercharger give you?
Depends on what other breathing improvements are done to the car. Ex Heads, Intake, Throttle Body, MAF, Exhaust, etc, etc. The KB like the one I posted above, on a stock long block with a few intake and exhaust upgrades at 6psi would put you around the 300-315rwhp range....but it would make torque-o-plenty right from idle.

I don't have 3.55's...I mean, if someone wants to give them to me, I'll install them...but I do not have any presently :rlaugh:

are the KB blowers more expensive? and do they just replace your upper intake, or you entire intake?
Yeah, the KB's are often a little more expensive than a centrifugal, but IMO worth every penny. Every ounce of power produced by the KB is usable...from idle to red line. With the centrifugal blowers, sure when you spin them hard they have the ability to make power, but at such low boost pressure, you're not going to very impressed with the results. Nice enough up top, but nothing to sneeze at down low....not without a gear change anyway.

The KB's replace the upper intake and you can have them bought to match either a stock lower or GT-40/Cobra lower. If you do decide to go with the KB and stick with the stock lower, you should seriously consider sending it to tmoss to have it ported. It would make a world of difference in comparison to a stock lower.....in the 20-30rwhp range.

If you check out Ebay right now, I think I recall seeing a couple of used KB’s on there around the $2,000.00 range. :nice:
