Shaker 500 - Where is Everything?

I see the front speakers, I see the 5x7s on the rear deck. What are the two things underneath the back seat? Are those two more 8" subs?

What I really want to know is, where the heck is the amplifier? I can't find it. I want to know if I can just swap it out with an aftermarket amplifier and not have to run speaker wire everywhere.

I may be wrong but i believe shaker 500's get all the power from the deck and dont actually have an external amp.

if u wanted to play with the aftermarket, then u shouldnt have gotten that audio system. its not compatible with anything

Doors have 5x7 plates up top, Subs on bottom. Rear has 5x7's on deck. Those things under the seats are access cutouts (I believe, from what I read elsewhere). Shaker 500 has amps up front in the kick panels by the door. Shaker 1000 has all that plus 2 more amps with the sub enclosure. As far as aftermarket goes.....expect the same problems as those cars equipped with the Mach system amps.

I have a deluxe GT and a regular sound system. I pulled it, replaced it with a new head unit and wiring harness. Powered it up and all is good. I was planning on putting my own system in from the start so the Shaker system was never a consideration

Uh huh, I haven't even said what my plans are and you're already giving me advice. I didn't "get" the Shaker 500. It comes standard with my model.

I have no intention of keeping that head unit, nor any of the amps and speakers. I figure I'll lose the engine noise adjustment feature. That sucks and all, but I'd rather have GPS navigation, DVD, rear-view camera, etc.

You see, if there was already one amp mounted in some compartement in the trunk or under the seat or something, it might be a perfect spot for an aftermarket amp. Not only might it be a perfect spot to mount, but I also might not have to run any additional speaker cables. If I was really lucky, I wouldn't have to run any RCAs either because the head unit could have been just a preamp (I understand now that it isn't). This would save time and money, it'd be a lot cleaner, and it'd make putting the stock system back in (when I sell it) much easier. That's why I asked.

No matter what, you were gunna have to run wires all over the place!!! Navigation, DVD and the rear view camera alone is quite a few cables.. not to mention, requiring you to pull apart a good part of the interior. Believe me, I know. I've comepted in the professional circuit for many years and have torn apart all of my Stangs.

Besides, why, if your spending good money on aftermarket equipment would you leave the garbage speaker wire that Ford provides in the car?

That makes as much sense as a football bat. If your running cable for those other components, upgrade the speaker wire too and run it together.

I posted this question on a different thread on the forum, but without any responses. You guys seem to know your way around the stereo systems, so I'm copying my question below. Thanks in advance.

Aux Audio?

There is an "Aux" button on all stereo systems, and the Owner's manual simply states: Aux: If no auxiliary sources are available, NO AUX AUDIO will be displayed. - and nothing else. Does anyone know how to connect to the auxiliary input? Is there a user-accessible input anywhere? I've looked around the interior & can't find one.

I haven't checked the back of the head unit, but I imagine that's where it is. Since there is no preamp processor for the system, that's really the only place it could be.

Thanks for the info, but my next logical question is "How do you get to the back of the head unit?" I'm pretty ignorant about that sort of thing.
