my buddy told me that when you replace your rear gears you can get them shaved./milled for less rotational mass. anyone ever heard of this or knows how to do it? I know that they already sell lightened gear sets but it sounded like a really good/cheap idea when he told me.

thanks,

Drew

Innovative West does it, takes 5+ lbs off the rear..... although it isn't cheap, price is around $250 if I remember correctly just for the machining.

is it even worth it though? i mean 5 pounds rotational mass isnt much, you can lose 30 from just switching to hi po brakes.

Yes when you are class racing it means a lot, every little bit counts. Same goes for titanium wheels studs, saves 1.5 lbs per wheel although they run $250+

ok, yes if you're going all out racing you might need the little things to win, but if you're just using it for a weekend warrior spend the money elsewhere.

Like Rickki said it's not cheap if you want to do it.. The price listed are what I basically paid to get mine done.. Factor in other axles upgrades and you just spent 500+ on removing just weight..

The 5lbs on the ring gear will be less with a small gear.,., ie3.73 or soemthing the 5lbs is from a thick 4.56 ring gear
