This is probably a stupid question but not as stupid as finding out I'm wrong after I paint the car. Do the Shelby side mirrors mount in the same place with the same hole alignment as the standard side mirrors?
Thanks for the answer, again, you've become my go to guy I guess I'll have to dig through all my parts bins and find the Shelby mirror, see how it lines up and weld one hole shut or both if I have to and re-drill holes. Glad I asked, I would have guessed they were interchangeable but that would be too easy.
Well I managed to find the mirror and yeah it isn't even close, far shorter so one or both holes need to be welded up. The question I now have is regarding the side to side positioning. Is the Shelby mirror mounted in the same "relative" position? That being not centred in the groove but rather closer to the inside of the car on I guess somewhat of an angle.
Thanks for the pic Zookeeper, looks about the same distance back as my old one but it looks more centered in the groove I think. The picture below shows what I mean, not sure if there's any reason for it to be off center like that?
I was looking through some old Stang mags and saw a pic of a Shelby, it had the mirror way foward, maybe an inch or two from the front of the door. I wonder if that would be better or if it's too far forward, maybe just have it far enough to clear the vent window? My car is in pieces so I can't sit in it and see at the moment. For now I'm welding both holes up I figure, redrill later.
Scott Drake makes a long base that allows you to use the existing mirror base location. But I had the same experience as ZooKeeper, they suck for rear visability. They look cool, but I went back to the stock mirrors.
