Shift Kit

Where is the best place to buy a shift kit and does it really make a difference? I think my car shifts really hard. I had a shift kit in my 65 and it seemed about the same as this car.

Just do a search for TransGo or Trans Go. There are at least 5 or so threads with info in them. I got mine and like it.

Also research the Jerry mod. It's a do-it-yourself shift kit that is designed by the guy who designed the 4R70W.

Just use the search feature, if you have any questions then feel free to post or pm me.

Good luck.

You could print out the instructions and take it to a shop. Just call and tell them about it.

If I could do it again I would have done the J-Mod and followed his guidelines for how to make a STRONG 4r70w.

I dont trust the J-Mod, i would just go get a preditor. taht dose it all and you can set other things such as the rev lim and such.

Ive thought about that, since i want to get 4.10s and different tires, but the chip does the firmer shifts electronically, and ive read that it's not quite the same result as with the j mod.

Does anybody have any opinions or knowledge on better shifts via comp. vs. the j mod?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but im guessing this stuff will be useful to you too!

With the Predator, the line pressure gives you a firmer shift. The shift kit gives you what feels like a powershift in a 5spd. Big difference. The Jmod involves putting in one stronger upper 1-2 spring and taking out the lower 1-2 spring plus taking out the 2-3 spring completely. It all depends on what you want to do, but i dont trust it much. I would just get a Shift kit...and if you want to save money (i fyou have gears, and wana set other things) get the Pred.

Lastly,

Would there be any problems w/ getting a j-mod kit and boosting the pressure electronically through a chip/programmer, for the ultimate shift??? or would that be an overkill and possibly harsh for the tranny?

o and while you have the pan off the bottom replace it with a higher capacity pan with a drain plug from SHM or B&M. my biggest gripe about domestic transmissions is the fact that they dont put drainplugs in their pans. o and also put on a inline filter and cooler if you do anything like that to the tranny.
