shifter way off to the right

I just installed my new shifter and the right, rear side hit the opening in the car. I pryed the metal back so it wouldn't rub . Is there something I could do to get it in the middle?? Any reasons why it be off to the right side too?? Thanks

The MGW. A couple late fox body owners had this problem. The problem lies in the thickness of the base. There were no clearance issues with the stock style shifter cuz it was such a thin piece of crap. As long as you have it so it won't rub i wouldn't worry about it a bit. I would take a look at the tranny mount though just to be safe, but i'm pretty sure it'll check out fine.
