shipping shortblock

I am about to ship my 347 shortblock, but before I get the quote I was wondering about how much it weighed. I really have no way of accurately weighing it. I was figuring around 500 lbs, is that in the ballpark? It just a shortblock, with a flywheel, no oil. No waterpump or ps or any accessories.

any ideas?? ups freight was like $700. I got a quote from a place online that was around $500. any help would be greatly appreciated. Just about got all this stuff sold now, just got the prochamber, flowmasters, and cobra r rims left.
Don't know what I am gonna do with the car when everythings gone though. start over or sell a roller I guess. thanks for the help.

an entire longblock weighs more like 500.

i would say 250ish range for a complete assembled shortblock is a fair estimate.

actually, i just looked at my shipping sheet from my 331 shortblock. wrapped, on a pallet, shipping weight was marked at 350. definately didnt weigh that much though.

I got my longblock from DSS shipped to my door for 200 bucks.

dss is more flexible on shipping.

i got charged 270 i think to ship my shortblock from california, to washington. PLUS the ****ing freight truck said he couldnt get into our area without even driving down here. so i had to drive 90 minutes north to pick it up.

point being, each company is different. dss wanted 200 to ship just a shortblock to me. some other companys wanted even more then i paid with chp.

privately shipping a shortblock, your going to get screwed. best way to save money is shipping to a business address.

that shipping is way too high! where abouts are you located and where is the block going? I do alot of logistics stuff here at work and I might be able to help out on cost. let me know!

well thats nice to know the weight issue. It only has to go like 480 miles from central iowa to niles michigan.

hey 5.0 con-vert, any help you can give would be great. I will try to get a new quote from the place we already tried, and see if its any different with the weight reduction.

My 347 shortblock was about 200lbs. I know Rick 91GT shipped it to me pretty cheap, but I don't know an exact price. $700 is a deal and a half, man LOL.

offer to stangnetters before ebay

well the kid gave me some story about how he had a freak fire on his jeep and now he can't afford to get the shortblock. I guess insurance didn't cover it or some story like that.

SO I thought I would offer it to anyone on stangnet who may be interested in it, before I put it up on ebay. I told the kid $1000 +shipping which was going to be about $380 to michigan from central iowa.

its a 10.4:1 with 61 cc heads. eagle rotating assembly, forged pistons and rod, cast crank. double roller timing chain, bored .030 over, hot tanked. and assembled and balanced. fms billet steel flywheel is included. dampner is included but has some surface rust from sitting, rubber is still ingreat shape though. no waterpump or accessories.

why buy a kit when you can have the whole thing already assembled for cheaper. My total shop bill for this was over $2600, it was professionally built by a local machine shop. It's crated up and ready to ship.
