I have been working on a coil over type set up that uses Ford parts. These photos are of a mock up arm and parts. This mod transfers load from the upper arm to the lower arm using stock type upper and lower arms, spring and shock. The lower arm I will use, has a screw in ball joint that is made to use under tension and a spherical bearing inside pivot. I may put this kit on my next track car project. This arm has also had the ball joint area realigned and the dome cut back for a wheel with more backspacing. The back of the dome is cut to clear the spring perch when it's moved 1 1/2" forward to get a better motion ratio. You can see the second set of holes in the arm. I will for sure have to use the shock mounts I made or spacers if I do this to a early Mustang.

The mount can't be too tall or it will hit the hood. I didn't do anything other than put the shock in the car and bring the suspension up to full joust (with no spring in place) and see how much more room the shock had to go.

Hey guys, great topic and posts.

Should I be considering doing something like that, (or spacers) on 67/68 mustang
with Konis that has been lowered. Would I have the same problem or is this just a 65/66 issue?
I've lowered the upper arms and I've shortened my 620's for a low ride height.

should I measure my Konis at full compression, and measure at full extension, and measure when it's at ride height or something to see if the ride height measurement is near center of travel??

This isn't just a Koni only mod. If you lower your car, then your shock gets compressed that much more. Not sure if it'll bottom out but the chances are greater. The spacers work the same as the mod, just doesn't look as nice. It isn't just a 65/66 issue. These car are lowered 2-3 inches, sometimes more. Thats a significant change. I'm no expert, but I'd imagine a good point for the shock to rest at is at a mid-point, not a compressed point. If you do bottom out the shock, it would probably bend the rod and blow the shock out.
