Shopping Suggestion, Ecoboost Or Gt?

hi guys,

I am currently deciding between a Ecoboost premium and a GT premium. Aside from the prices difference, I wanted to know how capable is the EcoBoost premium compare to GT premium?

Little bit of myself, I love driving, especially on the mountain roads. No track or drag strip for me at all. No road racing for sure but love the 0-60 pushy feeling. Love the sound of exhuasts especially "revving" haha. So I would like to know, from a technical perspective or if you have driven both, would you consider Ecoboost is as capable as the GT but only with less power? Or we are talking about apple and oranges? You know, from the brakes, suspensive and blah blah blah technical perspective?

Any insight and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would go GT all the way. I'm not sure what you're asking by "capability" though? Are you talking performance, horsepower, horsepower potential, handling?

I would consider the Ecoboost a "fun" commuter with a sporty feel, but the 5.0L is the one you want if going fast is your goal. Especially if you like the 0-60 rush and a throaty exhaust note.

Eco Boost and GT platforms are very evenly matched as far as the cars themselves go(excluding PP). Brakes, Suspension, Interior ect are all the same, if you won't miss the 125 hp extra that the V8 produces then the turbo 4 banger is the answer. There is a huge aftermarket that follows there cars with a ton of support, the ecoboost platform is growing quickly and the 5.0 platform is very well established

I have an Ecoboost Premium with the performance package and I LOVE it! This is my 4th mustang, and it is by far my favorite so far. It handles great, it's "quick" enough for what I am needing it for, but there are TONS of mods that can bolted on to make it faster. It doesn't compare with the GT from the hp perspective and the thing that I miss the most is the V8 sound. If you are looking for a fun every day driver, I would suggest the Ecoboost.

Either 1 is a good option. The 2.3l ecoboost is impressive but an unproven engine. If you have the cash, the GT is the way to go. You might regret not coughing up the extra $ for the good ol Murican V8.

JPC had initially put the car together, it is street driven as far as I know and has made the last 3 NMRA events. I believe other than a custom tune they use a manual boost controller, off road down pipe and custom cold air kit. The axles have been upgraded so I hear as well. Not sure of the hp output but from the outside looking in I'm calling it a winner

The ecoboost is 305hp?
The grand nasty made 245 in 1987 stock and with 2 more cylinders?
(FWIW, we made well over 900 rwhp with my buddies properly prepped Grand National motor and that car has been well into the 8's: let's see the turbo 4 mustang do that)

I have owned many Mustangs, GTs among them. My eco boost premium is the best ever. I believe they are 310 horsepower which is more than many past GTs.

The GT is definitely going to be more fun, sound nicer and be faster. I have an 02 gt and my girlfriend recently purchased a 2015 ecoboost and there's just so much difference in sound, and feel (obviously, 13 years) going from a GT into an ecoboost with a quiet hum of a 4 cyclinder is underwhelming. It's a nice car, with a good sound for a 4 cyl, handles nicely but I'd go with a GT if you had the cash.

I have to agree with the GT option. I know the 4 banger could put out a good bit of HP, I have to wonder for how long. that much stress on those few mains, and rods has to take a toll. Of course, the same can be said for the 750+ HP engine in the Super Snake.

If gas mileage is a concern, obviously you would go with the 4 banger, if you want to pay a little for the turbo, you can boost the V6 into an "ecoboost" ala the '11 - '14's, and get some pretty solid numbers.
If you want a good platform to mod, and boost, like a car that can get you out of trouble in traffic, or into it if you want, and will hold it's value better, the GT would be a better option. Especially the Premium and/or Performance Pack options. (PP ruins Mileage a little, but I'm holding around 22 - 25 on the interstate when I behave). The value thing could be a wash, depending on who you're selling to, but historically the GT's are more sought after over time. (at least that's my perception, which could be wrong).

Any car dealer will tell you that a used close to stock or stock Mustang will be worth more. Modified Mustangs have likely been driven hard and will turn many buyers off. Many buyers may also not like your modifications.

A car dealer looking to take in a trade, is not "most people". Most people (and even dealers for that matter) will be more than happy to take in a modified mustang, provided the mods are tasteful and reversible. What most aren't willing to do however is give many owners their inflated asking price for those additional mods when the time comes. Mods really add next no additional value to the trade in and depending on what mod it is, may actually get you less.....but try to convince the guy who just spent $5K on mods over the last couple of years that they aren't worth anything when he wants to deal his ride in.

The right mods on the other hand will be appreciated by those who know Mustang....but generally that's strictly private sale territory.

Case in point....you'd be hard pressed today to find a Fox body, or for that matter, even an SN95 Mustang GT that hasn't had some form of modification performed to it at some point. People are still lining up to buy them though.

.....and again, your statement (as far as dealerships are concerned) applies to any Mustang, not GT's exclusively.

I agree. It is my experience that unmodified Mustangs will sell for more used because buyers do not have to wonder if changes were done properly.

Who buys a GT Mustang to NOT beat on it?

I would pick the EB if I planned on putting a lot of miles on it. If I wasn't, I'd pick the GT. I work 7 miles away from home so I went GT w/PP.
