My dad says i should not take apart my engine yet until i have everything to put it back together because he said it will get rusty. i am talking maybe 2 months at the most before i get my afr heads and i wanted to paint the block and hone it when i am ready. but i am bored so i want something to do so will it be a problem?

i was always told to spray it down with WD real good and out a plastic bag around it. WD 40 stands for water displacement so you wont have any issues of rust if water can't penetrate. then when you go to assemble the motor wipe it down ( i washed mine thoroghly and re applied some oil ) and your done

I've had the motor from my '85 sitting on a stand since November. The bottom end is together but no heads, intake or oil pan yet.

I just spray it with WD-40 and put a trash bag over it. No rust at all

Just do as everyone said with the WD-40 on a regular basis, and you'll be fine. Just be sure to keep a trash bag or something over the motor, and put the crank in an air-tight bag if at all possible to keep moisture and crud off it after spraying it down with WD-40.
